Headed down to Port A for 4 days of fishing starting Feb. 8th.
I have always stuck to the bay in Feb. and March, but going to have a salt newbie with me and know he would enjoy going offshore if Feb. is a decent time to do it.
Any experiences you can share with going offshore in Feb. and any recommendations on offshore guides or party boats for Feb. would be greatly appreciated. The offshore guide we normally fish with in the summer does not guide year round.

If the winds are calm then you can get offshore. However, seldom are the winds calm in Feb.

This time of year it'll be difficult to impossible to find blue water. Most summertime species will not have made it back yet. Your best bets will be waaaaaaaaaayyyyyyy offshore. Tuna and wahoo would be the best bet. A trip to "the floaters" (floating rigs) would be the most productive. They are roughly 100-150 miles offshore, depending on port.

Heading down next Monday. Does anyone known if the 8 or 12 hour party boat trips are catching fish? Seems like they should be catching some kings and vermillion snapper at least.

Yeah, we went out on the dolphin docks out of Port A. Caught tons of Vermillion and the boat limited out on Kings in about 2 hours. The Kings were very thick! Caught lots of Red snapper too, but those had to be released. It was really rough in the morning, 10-12ft seas for about 7hrs of the 12 hr trip. About 3 hours of boat ride out and back. So you get 6 hours of fishing. We were about 35 miles offshore. We had fun!
