I have a 1993 40hp Evinrude that I need to replace the head gasket on. I cant see how to do this. How do the rear motor mounts come out or do they. Any info or help would be appreciated.
Ken

i changed one out on an '84 35hp rude. didn't have to touch the motor mounts. just take off the cylinder cover, pull off the water cover gasket, take off the cylinder head assembly. this will expose the head gasket. of course, im sure mine looks different. go to www.boats.net and you can find an exploded view of your motor.

Do you have to take off the cover for the water jackets in the head? They may just bolt into the head and you dont have to mess with that.

If I remember correctly those are there to align the lower cowl pans. Remove the lower cowl pans and remove the head. That's all you have to do.

Thanks for the info Tommy. After glancing at it yesterday I kind of figured that would work. When I get my parts in I will give it a whirl and let yall know.
Thanks
Ken
