Thanks, looked at one yesterday at BPS. Really not any faster than the old HDS. More memory storage and you get the overlay of contour. Hard to tell on the 7. Not a very wide band.

Yeah the structure map does nothing for me, at least not yet. Maybe in person it'll be diff. What made me order a Gen 2 was the faster speed (allegedly) and 5 year limited warranty. It'll be here on Monday (HDS 10) so I'll see soon. If you are really going to order one DO NOT get it as Bass Pro or Cabelas, you will pay way too much. BOE Marine and a few other internet sites are way cheaper. For example I paid $250 less than Bass Pro plus no shipping saved another $170 and free shipping. Let me upgrade for free, Kinda.

Wasn't going to buy at BPS. I buy alot of stuff there because it is the only place I can find some things. They are much higher than other places. I have package deal for a 8,10, & LSS-1 w/ cables. Saving a bunch. Nearly $1000.

When are they coming in? Pretty cool stuff even if it does cost an arm & leg . I was at a Skeeter dealership today and asked how much the 21 I class in front was. Only $71,000 with the electronics that are on it Post some pics when you get her going, I love looking at pics!

I will post pics when I get it all setup. That will be when my new boat comes in around March 1. As soon as I complete the deal on my existing boat. I will be purchasing the graphs. Even talking with the dealers. It is cheaper to buy your boat at the base price, then add your own graphs on the boat. Boat companies have to make their profit off of the graphs also. I paid less than than $150 at On Site on Fork to have them installed properly on my existing boat. I will see if they or the dealer is cheaper on the install.

I just put a 8,10 combo on my new FX21. I ended up going with the Gen 1 for the 10 and the Gen 2 for the 8. The Gen 2 is a lot faster, but unless you are constantly playing with it, you wont know the speed difference. it is nice to have the speed to switch the pages fast while on the bow, but we are talking half seconds. I had a 5,7 combo on my last boat and i would highly recomend getting at least one 8 or better b/c of the soft keys. the on-the-fly adjustment is 100 times easier w/ soft keys.i am still learning a lot about these units but the soft keys are making it a lot easier.

Yep alot more expensive but real time & hassle savers for sure.

Just finishing installing the Simrad NSS touchscreen.....unbelievable redraw rates and super intuitive to use. Networks with all my lowrance equipment great.

Not sure how you guys store your units, but i found these cases at Wal Mart for $12. this is a HDS 10 & 8. makes for great cases.

They are made by Plano. It's a pistol case.

Just FYI, wait till you get any moisture on the touchscreen... Does not work very well.

Bought a HDS 8 Gen 2 today. Did a demo before I bought it and made them put a Navionics card in it. Mapping was instant and zoomed in and out without delay. Also switched from Lowrance Insight map to Navionics back and forth and also worked without any delay. It is Fast!!!!! Have not installed it yet to try the structuremap but I can't wait to see it.

I ran the NSS touch screen in a few rain storms this year.. it never loss reading from my fingers. (I thought the same thing, but it work like a champ in the rain)
