I wanted to know from all the fisherman the different colors of crawfish that you all have seen in our lakes around north and northeast Texas?

We have them digging holes all the time in the yard at my place. I caught one once and he was huge! looked like a little lobster... He was brown and orange. then i stuck my hand in a hole to turn the water off to house once and i there was one in the hole and he grabbed onto my hand and i pulled him out and he was all black with a brown stomach. I think the main color though is a brown orange and red. Have heard they go blue sometimes...

Man, I just posted a great article a few weeks ago about that very thing. Let me see if I can find it. Some of the other folks here may not have seen it either, and it really opened my eyes. You'll be surprised at the answers to your questions. I
!'m 51 and been seriously fishing for nothing but trophy largemouths for 30 years. Been "fishing " since I was 3. Caught my first bass on a cane pole, bobber and minner off a dock at Lake Claiborne in N. La. when I was about 6 or 8, I think. Been hooked on these green fish ever since.
The thing I love so much about this sport is the constant attainment of knowledge. I've often said that when I quit learning something, I'll quit it. Hasn't happened with bass or whitetails, yet.
I'm sorry I went off on one of my waxing poetic diversions. But always seek that knowledge and never measure your success by catches or kills.
Let me see if I can find that article or thread, now.

I throw Chigger Craws all the time, and I mainly just stick with green pumpkin. It really is a solid producer for me. However, after reading that article, I plan to experiment with my colors and match the natural color changes.

Ok fellers. I can't find the exact piece regarding colors of mudbugs, crawfish, crayfish, krawdads and, well...u get the point.
There is more than one iteration we could read on the subject regarding colors of Crayfish over their lifetimes. Simply do a net search for "seasonal color phase of crawfish".
The search will instantly yield more info than u can digest in a week's time.
You will also get the answer 2 ur question, and then some!
Fouz...outta here for now. Good night and morning...

99% of time if you throw green pumpkin to brown you got it covered. Here in Texas and Oklahoma, my biology class went out last year and collected a bunch of Texas praire crawfish which our biggest was over 8" they tend to be more red black and brown, we kept one in our aquiruim at school and it has turned blue now but I think because of the water temp being color not sure.

I have notice in the summer at Fork we get lots of orange/redish color around June/July but in the fall/winter they seem to be lots of them have blue on the pincher's. Most I have seen any other time are green pumpkin. The big males seem to have some red on them much like a rooster.

Wow I feel like I know 50% more about a jig then what I ever did! "Crawfish are also very light sensitive. If the water is shallow, your chances of catching bass are much better in low-light conditions such as early morning or late evening. If the crawfish are walking around on rocks in 30 feet of water, you can fish for them about any time of the day." That part really caught my eye.
