Recently got a camper and am interested in staying at this rv park. Anyone ever stayed there or have any knowledge about it. Looking at somewhere to Stay closer to the state park than zapata for a change. How safe is it being close proximity to border or am I thinking to much?

It's safe. But there is NOTHING out there at all. There is seriously no reason at all to stay down there unless your fishing SUGAR.

I believe that is the one on the road towards the dam and it is close to the State Park entrance. Why not stay at the Park? Much nicer.

Made the mistake of staying at the state park, and drove around Falcon Heights did not look safe. Truly is nothing out there. It's not worth being 30 miles from something resembling civilization (Zapata) with all the carp that we've got to have to keep ourselves in boats, tackle, etc.

From what I remember seeing, there is not much to it at all. The motel consists of several cinder block buildings. Roma is about 12 miles south and there are a few places to eat. I did read another post where one TFFer is staying there. You might do a search.

We stayed there, just a room is all it is. They did clean it everyday and that is all we needed. We carried alot of food with us so that wasnt a big deal plus we fished from daylight to dark everyday.

Stay at Stinson's RV Park it is finced in and very nice. Very nice people run it. Good showers and bathrooms. It is about 5 miles out toward the dam from Zapata.

I would have disagree with most of this JD. The poster said they have their camper and their boat and food. We have a great time with all the fisherman that stay with us and its private not the traffic in Zapata. We have an outdoor covered kitchen with all the facilities for cooking. The motel rooms are clean, have a small fridge, micro and coffee pot, bed and shower. Its amazing how the State Park ramp is full of trailers all the time and with the gas prices going up you guys go ahead and drive that 60 mile RT back to Zapata and especially when the lake gets so low you can only launch on our end of the lake. grin

The question is do you come to Falcon to fish, most are on the lake at daybreak till dark then enjoy conversation with the anglers, lets see that leaves how many hours in the room itself confused

Debra knows what she's talking about, unlike some of the posters above. I've stayed at FH Motel for years and have no problems with it at all. The people are friendly and you can cook what you want. And it's 60 miles closer RT to McAllen, where I live. Zapata is o.k. if you want to drive up there and have more choices to eat, but you can also go to Roma if you don't want to cook your own food. I also feel totally safe for me and my gear. I do bring in my rods, etc. into the room every night, but I would do that anywhere.

You pass it on Hwy 83 right before the State Park exit.

That's what I was expecting to hear. I just don't trust putting gas in my boat from a place that probably orders fuel once every 2 months. I can respect your opinion though. Good luck on the lake.

We have four rooms booked there for a week next month the 18th -24th. Our friends started staying there a couple years ago and highly recommended it. We had a concern about gas also. They said there was a good station about 10 minutes away that was no ethanol and seemed to have good gas.I was thinking they said they went south for gas and food but I may wrong. We plan on bringing alot of our own food to cook and using the outdoor cooking area most of the time.

I've stayed at Falcon Heights, if your fishing the south end of the lake its the best place to be IMO. The first impression it gives is not the best, but all in all we had no complaints. Its a room with 2 beds, restroom with a good shower, and a small table/sitting area. Trust me you spend the majority of your time outside your room in the common area /outdoor cooking area once the fishing day is over and all the other anglers start coming in. It was quite the party the week we were there. Gas station and awesome breakfast tacos were about 15 minutes south of Falcon Heights, I dont remember the name of the town...

I have my rv at Stinson's. It is very clean. The only sites that are available right now are the overnight. I believe the rate is $20 a night.

Our bass club and many others love Falcon Heights and have stayed there for years. The rooms are clean and the covered kitchen is awesome. Some stay at Mike's also. If you like fishing the low end and stay in Zapata that 60 mile round trip to the state park will run up your gas bill in a hurry. If you don't trust the gas close by then run into Roma which is about 15 miles away and fill up at HEB.

What dates are you going Chance? I take it you are planning on fishing south most of the time...might look at state park overnight sights as mentioned above. Again what dates so I'll have a place to stay!
