Never used on of these before. What dictates the size weight you use below the float and what is the typical weights used for crappie fishing?
Thanks,

i used one for the first time the other day, and I was using a 1/24 oz. jig, and it worked fine. line slid through cork and stood it up just as it is supposed to, i think. i did buy the pretty small Thill slip bobbers though. if you are using minnows, i'm not sure but i would think a very small split shot would work.

I personally like the ones that thill makes that tells you right on the side what size weight or jig weight it is rated for. No guess work and sits right every time.

I thought you put some split shot or weight like 12"-16" above the jig when you used these, but you're saying just use the jig itself? Is a 1/16 oz jig enough weight to keep the float upright?

I just add enough split shot until I get the float to stand up. Also if you fish deep, 10 ft for example, you want to have enough weight on the line. If not, it will take a long time for the bait to sink, for for stopper to hit the float, for your float to stand up.

I don't use a weight for jig rig and do not fish minnows. I have caught most of my fish using an eighth oz jig with crappie nibble. I also use a larger stand up cork for deeper bobber fishing. More times than not you know you have a hit when the stand up cork suddenly lays down.

I use and 1/8 oz split shot about a ft above the jig when using a slip cork. It makes the cork more sensitive.
