The whole reason I got a kayak was the simplicity. Just a yak, a paddle, and some fishing equipment. No need for gas a motor oil registration or a trailer with their infinite problems. Now that I have one I need an anchor and there for an anchor trolley, I want fish finder and the battery that goes along with it. A mother rod holder at the front would be nice. Can't go without a paddle leash. I definitely want an equipment crate. The list is never ending.
Why can't I let myself just keep it simple.

Zachary00, I have a Fishin' Buddy, an anchor with 40 foot rope that I let down, depending on the wind direction, that I loop around my toe for easy disengage, and 2 brush clamps with thin rope they come with to stabilize my yak to a branch or stump etc. I built a deck that fits in front of my knees that has 4 rod holders that hold my rods horizontal with rod tips that meet at the tip of the yak instead of straight up like most. My wish list is like yours though, anchor w/trolley, fish finder combo, and other bells and whistles. This is definitely the place to learn about it I am finding.

The way I look at it is that with the money I was spending in gas, oil, etc....with my bass boat every weekend (about $150-$200) I can be upgrading my kayak to make it more use friendly.;)

I thought I needed a crate, but I dont seeing as to how I just fish for catfish. I got a crown royal bag with a spool of 50lb mono(leader line), 3-way swivels, 2&3oz weights and a packet of 8/0 gama oct circles. a stringer and scale! On occasion when I do go for sandies, i take a plano box with a couple of lures...with all this being said its possible. (at least thats what we like to believe)

I got mine for $$ reasons spending $200 a month on gas and oil PLUS the amount of things that can go wrong on a boat just didn't seem fun. I can catch fish as easily out of a kayak as a boat just cant move as fast.

Why can't I let myself just keep it simple. something to be said for keeping it simple. you can find a lot of rigging IMO. A Scavenge Hunt think i found some old milk crates on the curb. got some left over PVC from a buddy for my old crate rod holders n some cheap paracord from the store always works for rigging. some are using pipe insulation ( ask plumbers @ construction site)for rod floatation w/a few zipties same paracord for a paddle leash. the caribiners are normally 50-99C. $1 stores have bungies that can be tied together & added to paracord. also you could make a list of items your looking for. show it to friends, co-workers & family. Example: - pvc - bungee cords - milk crate - chain/weight/small anchor - rope 25'-50' - clips (aluminum, brass, stainless) - floatation (starafoam, old pool noodles, blow up) - ring (brass/copper/stainless/aluminum - old paddle (cut it off and stow it below for an emergency) - etc. - etc.LOL lot a folks want this kind of stuff out of their yard/garage/storage building. the dumpsters at storage facilities might have some of this too. find some pieces of styrofoam or old pool noodles make some accessory floats. bubble rap, inflatable items, and the above can be stuck in your yak in case you start taking on water suddenly.

Its not as much as cost as it is the desire to load up and be on the water in about 15 minutes. The more to take the harder that is.

Other than that I'm loaded in 5 min. At the water I put my creat in the back, attach my front rod holder, plug in the FF, slide it in the water, and go.

Hey Todd if you have a picture of your little home made anchor troller could you please send it to me. I want to steal your idea and I do not remeber seeing it the last time I came down to visit.
