Fishing Report

Date : 1-015-12
Water Clarity: 6"-1 ft
Water Temp: 53-57

Happy New Year everyone, It sure was nice to receive some rain this past couple of weeks, as that was exactly what the lake needed. The water level is 153.10 which is about 2.5' higher from December. It being the month of January the fish will begin to start their pre-spawn mode so you can expect to catch fewer numbers of bass, but much better quality size as the big females start to move up to spawn in shallow water. Success on Rayburn in January depends completely on water temp. Basically, if the water temp is below 50 degrees then the fishing is really slow. The magic water temp is 52 degrees or above. With that being said, let's get down to fishing.

Usually, you can find fish on shallow grass beds in 2-8' foot of water. Work these areas with some type of search bait like a square bill crankbait, lipless crankbait or a spinner-bait, this will let you cover as much water as possible. Once you find an area with fish on it slow down and fish this spot thoroughly by using some type of soft plastic or jig.

If the shallow water bite is not working for you move out into deep water. Fish alone the ridges, drains or deep water points that are leading into spawning areas. a crankbait,c-rig or a football head jigs fished in these areas should get you the bite that you looking for.

Last spring was fantastic for fishing and I know this year will be even better, so if you are interested in coming out and catching some big bass contact me anytime. I still have a few dates available and want to remind anyone that wants spring reservations with me to do it as soon as possible, as I book up really fast.
