Well went for a drive today and stopped at Moss lake. I had seen it posted on TFF and wanted to see it for myself.

First off nice lake BUT. I only found two places that you can bank fish and one was at the south boat ramp that was closed due to low water. The north boat ramp was open but not place to fish. 99% of the lake banks are private. I wanted to try the creek on the west side of the lake but could not find a road to get to it.
If you have a full size boat this might be a good lake to fish its deep up to 68ft.
But if you want to bank fish it I would not suggest the drive.

Brad,

I have a friend with a lake house on Moss and you are correct, nearly all of it is privatly owned. I know the guy that owns the land that backs up to that creek. We have fished it a lot and only caught carp. Be careful if you go back that way bc he hunts a lot for hogs and deer along that creek. If you do have a boat, you need a moss lake pass on your boat I think. Otherwise the lake sherrif will write you a ticket. The lake does have some decent LMB fishing though. Good luck.

Yes you do have a moss lake pass on the boat.
I just have a 8ft 2 man boat don't see me on that lake
Only carp and LMB hmmm that lake sure looks like it could have crappie to.

Sorry Brad let me clairify. When I said we only caught carp i meant out of the small creek on the west side. Moss lake definitly has crappie in it. Most of the lake house owners sink x-mas trees and you can catch them until you get bored of it. As you said earlier the problem is it is all privatly owned. Good luck.

Well now I could see that.
I fished some with crank bait's but the wind was in my face and well just was not good. I could see that some fire pits where fresh and figured that some one had been cat fishing.
Lots of trash at that spot too.

Did you take your boat out there Brad or just fish off the bank? Where do you get a "moss lake pass"?

The only place to get the boat sticker is at gainesville Police Dept. I think the lady u have to get them from is there from about 9 am to 3 pm and she takes a lunch break. Its kinda tricky to get one. The store at the lake is out of business, so the PD is the only choice now

You should have gone to the north ramp and fished a crawfish (real or artificial) weightless into the weedline. I caught a live crawfish on the bank and hooked him in the back with a circle hook. In 10 casts I caught 5 bass, the smallest being 1.5#. By the time I had that 5th fish the crawfish was just a husk. They go nuts for crawfish there.
