Wow it looks commercially done. You did a great job. I had the 797 a couple years ago and it was the best FF I had ever had. They stopped making that one, made a couple nice changes and called it the 798. You are going to absolutely love that FF.

Looks very nice, impressed with the spring that is agreat idea. The unit is very nice, have one i found on craigslist, do you have the GPS puck, if you do would like to see how you mount it. I used a ram mount cut down to fit in the foot peg rail using one of the screw in the rail to hold it in place.

Great Setup! Makes me want to trade my 385ci set up for yours! I know this may be dumb but can someone school me on what my unit lacks compared to higher units? Also, I fish Alan Henry alot and my unit doesnt show the map, I am a FF newbie so be easy on me. Do I need a Nav chip? Thanks you any helps guys.

I believe the GPS antenna is internal.

Man that install is ingenious... I think I'm gonna put a rudder on the commander and i may steal that idea... I just always wonder if there's interference from the rudder and the turbulence from it... Great job!

First off......make sure you get a SD card and then go to HB's website and upload the latest drivers on it and read how to flash the unit. All you do is put the card in the FF and go to the settings menu. My software was old and it had an issue where it caused none of my settings to stay when I powered off my 798.
Secondly, I recommend bringing your battery inside and hooking the unit up, put it in demo mode and while viewing the manual (on the PC since it's a CD) play with the settings *******REMEMBER****** if you plug in the trasnducer and put it in regular mode and touch it or point it at anyone, it's going to shock the heck out of you.
Lastly, if you would like, one day this week I can go through all my settings and type up the ones I use and you can use this as a starting point. I tweaked mine over about 10 trips and prob 10-12hrs of messing with it an hour here and an hour there.

Arai, that would be great if you have the time to make a post about setting up your FF. Right now I use just the very basic of what I know it can do. Thanks!

Finally after spending some time one the water, here are a couple of photos of where I've decided to position my FF head, this spot is out of the way, easy to change settings and close enough to see very well. There are a lot of options but this works best for me. I also included one shot with it extended up for standing, would also slide it forward 12' in the GearTrac.

If you upgrade the firmware be sure to reset your HB unit to factory defaults before doing the upgrade. Failure to do so can cause a return to the factory. Spend a while in the HB SI forum also and you'll gather a lot of good info.
Your gonna love it. I have a 997 on my PA and am crippled without it now.
Tight lines, Phill

Another thing I was too late learning is KEEP YOUR CONTACTS CLEAN !!!
A small amount of corrosion or oxidation on the male pins will kill you GPS or your skew your signal from the transducer. I have had to use electrical contact cleaner on mine several times over the last three years.
I keep a small tube of dielectric grease ( from autozone) with me and keep everything coated. I've had no problems so far since I started this routine. I have always used it on my battery connections and wiring but never thought about the electronics cables.
