Went over to ALX today to pick up a rod I had ordered and to also test the new A-Rig rod with Alex. The most common problem is that a lot of guys don't have a rod that can handle more than 2oz. We sub what ever heavy rod we have to throw a rig like this. I have been using my ALX DD crank to throw my 2 1/2 rig. The problem is that the rod will load up way to much to throw this heavy rig so you need to be very carefull and just lob it out there. Before I even held it I was thinking WOW this is going to weigh a ton. Wrong. It was a lot lighter than I thought. This is a 7' 11 1/2 glass rod. I believe it weighed in at 8oz finished. It can handle 2-6 oz rigs! What a great looking rod.

So we head out to the field. I was thinking that throwing such a heavy rig it was going to wear me out big time cause I'm going to have to muscle this thing. We tested it with a 3oz rig and also a 6oz rig.It took a few cast to get used to it. The 6oz rig was first in the line up.We were throwing it on some mono. Braid is what you want to use but we were just testing. The trick to throwing this is not to throw it like a crank bait. You can't just rip it out there. It is a slow technique. It's like a dump truck. Nothing fast but tons of torque. Basically you throw it right over your head. Let the rod load up and let the rod do all the work. It was like a sling shot! Once the rod loaded up you start your cast and the rod unsprings It's self and will bomb that rig as far as you can see! There was not much casting effort because the rod does all the work. We had on 6 1oz weights. After a few cast Alex and I just looked at each other with out jaws dropped!

So than we tried with the 3oz weights. See Ya! It was gone! We didn't even know where it landed. We looked down at the reel and we have peeled off just about all the line. We were down to the curls in the line. Cast after cast we lost the 3 oz weights in the air! So we needed to tie on red ribbon. Kind of like caution tape with a one foot tail so we can see it in the air. This did knock down some casting distance because you can here the tape ripping in the wind. You can cast this rig with ease all day. So after a while we said that we needed to measure how far this is going. We were amazed! Our guess was pretty close. With about 8mph winds and a long tale of tape we hit around the 200 foot mark!!! That's insane! The rod still had a ton of power left in it.Talk about covering some water and keeping it in the strike zone.

I truly was blown away on how easy it was to throw and the distance this rod gave us throwing a heavy rig like this. This is by far going to be the best A-Rig rod out there. Of coarse I have one on order.

So if you are serious about throwing the A-Rig this year you have got to try this rod. I can promise you it will exceed your expectations.

Not sure what pricing is going to be on it yet.
