Hello to all... from up north,
very nice forum you have here. Lots of good reading. I'm an avid river smallmouth fisherman from SE Pennsylvania. I am going to be visiting your great state of Texas next week to visit family (non fisherman)in the Dallas area. Looks like I'll be down for the better part of weeks....So.....gonna have to sneak alittle fishin in.

The little bit of research I've turned up so far shows that the Brazos river below Whitney offers some good fishing. I found there is an outfitter just south of there to get kayak rentals and shuttle service from. Looks like an 8+ mi float for the day. Any info is greatly appreciated.

How's the fishing this time of year?

water temps for the river?

Also looks like the Dallas area has a number of res./lakes to fish, any thoughts on these?

thanks in advance

Matt R

Hope you enjoy your time down here Matt... I think the brazos below Whitney or possum kingdom are greatness, (though I gotta admit I prefer it below PK myself) and booking yaknyota for a trip on that river if possible would be worth it... If that's not in the cards then the float down to Dicks below Whitney is probably the best trip for a one-day excursion...

As far as the lakes/reservoirs around here, there's some good ones... I do think that January is the toughest month, particularly for largemouth, but it does pick up in February when some of the biggest fish of the year start to stage up before the spawn...

Post up here again when you get down here...

Great info guys, I appreciate it. Unfortunately, I don't think booking a trip w/ yaknyota is gonna be in the cards. Those are some nice stripers he's catching though. Lots of fun there.

The float to Dicks from Whitney was what I had in mind as a day trip or 2. Looks like it offers a good variety of species in this area too. Better chance at smallmouth in this section?

How far is PK from Dallas?

I'll be sure to check in once I'm down there. Leaving Wed. evening....gotta go pack some tackle.

Thanks
Matt

Whitney Dam to dicks can be done in one day but there is an island at Coon Creek to camp at if you want to just spend a couple of days on the river. I do this myself often. Lots of great fishing close to camp. Its not but about 2 miles down river but a great place to be! texas
