I got a new setup this week and was wondering if I could get some input from of the older Salts on here about it. The reel is one of the new Penn Squall lever drag, I think Penn is trying to put out better entry level gear. I have the 60 class which claims 30# full drag. Paired with a Custom UglyStik 6'6" standup rod that's a 50# MH action. Researching the rod it is really a sailfish rod but for $70 on clearance I hope it'll do the job. Whole setup cost me a little over 250. I would love better gear but this hopefully does the trick while I save up.

Sounds good. I'd load it with 65-85 lb braid. I like braid for deep drops since it doesn't stretch near as much as mono. A lot more sensitive too.

yep load it w/ 65# Jerry Brown hollow or Daiwa Samurai braid
in PE-6.
Set the drag to make 17# at strike, & you've got your
Jack-killer
Good Luck!!!

I like 80 lb power pro braid. I have had good luck with it and buy 1500 yd spools on ebay pretty reasonable..
