First off, is it legal to sell your share-a-lunker? I have bought fish for my pond here at the house from people that raise fish to sell. Got me to thinking, would you sell your share-a-lunker?
If so what would your price tag be? I've seen 10 lb bass from $5000 to $10,000
What's a 13lber+ worth?????

$5 Grand or a place in ShareLunker history. That is a tough decision, in all seriousness. I would love to have 5 grand, but you also can't 'buy' a memory in the sharelunker club and all that fun and recognition for a year. Not sure what I would do! If someone offered me 10 grand then I would be swayed indefinitely lol.

I'm a cheap date as long as I take a pic and people know I caught it I could care less about the share lunker. With the money I would get a replica made and have plenty left over.

For $10k, I'd sell it in a heartbeat. For $5k, I'd take awhile to think about it and then I'd probably take the money. If it got much lower than that, I'd turn it in and get my free replica.

Bass Pro just gives gift cards for them. haha.

No one in their right mind is going to pay those kind of prices (yet)

I was under the impression it was illegal to sell a gamefish caught from a public lake?

Can't sell certain fish. If you sold your SAL you and the person buying it would be breaking the law. Can't see how Bass Pro gets around it with the Gift Cards as that's Bartering. Maybe they are renting the Bass?

How can a GW check my house without a warrant? No LEO should be able to enter my house without a warrant or my permission. I'm not a hunter so maybe this is more applicable to the hunters? But if I can legally put the fish in a fryer, I really don't think the state should be able to call it "state property".

This doesn't seem to read that you can't sell it if it was caught in public waters, but rather you can't sell them at all. Does that make Camelot Bell's bass sales illegal?

Honestly, why does the state care if fish are bought and sold? Happens at Petco every day.

Actually, Bass Pro does much more. At Bass Pro, you can donate a Bass that is 8-9 lbs and above and they will provide you a replica once the fish passes quarantine and is put into the tank. Around 30 days in quarantine. They also cover the cost of gas from the lake to the store or they may make arrangements to pick it up if possible.

The key to this is calling the corporate HQ. they are the ones who make the decisions, not the people at the store. The fish you donate may actually go to another store depending on the size of the tank and the number of big fish on hand. I donated an 11.3 lber over two years ago and I also work there part time. The replica they sent me was fantastic and I get to see my fish each time I am in the store to work or shop.

Why would you want to take a giant fish you caught and give it to Bass Pro Shops?

Just a one time deal to have a mount made for free. I normally put all fish back into the water in which they came. Have had other fish 10, 9.5, 9.25, several in the 8, 7 range all go back. I fish tourneys every now and then and know the value of knowing where some big ones are.

I hadn't checked but I thought it was against the law. All my fish I have bought from people that raise bass. With the bass coming from TPW that's where it gets into the legal issue's. That being said I didn't know what a SAL was worth if you could sell it?? I guess the old saying goes," if you don't know it won't hurt you"
so if someone catches one and makes a phone call, no one knows smile

This is a good read about Ethel , caught in Lake Fork

fact that BPS paid Mark for the right to display
Ethel.

It is illegal to sell a gamefish from public waters. It is okay to sell gamefish from private waters providing you have a permit to do so. Mike at Camelot has one.

I understand that a GW has rights, but I guess my problem came with someone suggesting a GW could enter your house without a warrant or your permission. But I think the piece of the puzzle I was missing is that, like you said, he can't do any of that unless you're breaking the law. Any cop has right to search of a vehicle, boat, home, etc. if he sees you breaking the law. That's not power above what a GW has.

Anyway, I'm not trying to get this post off on a tangent. Like I said, I don't believe the state has any right to call something their "property" if I can legally take it home and put it in the deep fryer. I'd sell that thing in a heartbeat for the prices they were talking about earlier. But if I was going to turn it in, I'd rather turn it into the SAL program than BPS. Nothing against BPS (prob my favorite place to shop), but I'd rather them try to breed some more monsters than just have my own personal enjoyment of seeing it swimming in the BPS tank.

Heck alot of the guides got their start and filled their books buy catching one fish. Their is nothing wrong in my opinion of taking advantage of an opportunity as long as it is done legally and I can promise you if you caught a state record and contacted the right people at Bass Pro they would make sure it was well worth your time and that it was legal. My first call would be to every boat manufacturer to see which one wanted to have their boat in every photo that would be allowed to be published smile

Some have said they think the new state record may be worth a ton of money, I think that is true but you are going to have to go out and find ways to make that money.
