In all reality, the companies that are reputable deserve their price tag. Most companies market rods in respectable price ranges for the build quality of the blank of the rods and the "bling" on them. Thread wraps, reel seats, fancy guides, micro guides, etc. I've actually asked several friends of mine how they feel about spending $300+ on a rod. Their responses were actually surprising. One of the most recurrent answers was, "will I catch more fish with it?" So I assume that marketting is the culprit behind your answers. Companies like Shimano, G Loomano (Loomis), St. Croix, Daiwa, etc, all built up a great reputation as they were growing companies because of marketting used as they were growing. I would be very intrigued to see the young companies are going to grow and improve in the future. I realize many of them have been around for longer than I've been alive, but imagine where Abu Garcia is going to be in another 20 years. Comparable to the reputation of quality found in Loomis/Shimano? With the higher price tag to match? Heck, even H20 Xpress over this past year has improved their rods, came out with fluoro and braid, and have a ton of baits that people on this forum love. Imagine them in the future.
