Hi Fisherman I am coming down to Texas ( Port Isabel )to fish the Laguna Madre. My boat is a deep V and needs 18 inches of water. I am hauling all the way from Ontario Canada and was wonder if this boat will need too much water depth to fish the Laguna. I looked online for flat bootom boat rentals for the month but could,t find any. thanks noront

not the most ideal boat for the LLM but it can be done........

i see all sorts of boats fishing down here.... carry some waders and you can get out o'the boat in the shallows

you can always fish the channels for snook and mangrove snapper too

Can it be done. Yes. Will it be ideal. No. Is your boat set up for salt water (galvanized/aluminum trailer, stainless steel fittings, etc)? Alot of the excellent fishing down here is done in less than 24" of water. BUT you can find plenty of fish this time of year in the right spots of deeper water. If possible hook up with a guide to seek some advice. Soak that advice in nice and deep and go from there. Alot of people learn how to fish the TX coast the hard way. Several thousand dollars later (most of the time 10s of thousands) they finally get a little pattern set up that works for them. A few hundred dollars, a good guide, and ALOT of questions will do you ALOT of good.

You'll just be limited to less than 20% of the water.

Hope you have a galvanized trailer...if not you'll be buying a new one pretty quickly.

Get yourself some liquid electrical tape, coat every single wire connection, or you'll be replacing those too in a few months.

The LLM salinity level is the highest in the US, 100X more than the Louisiana coast, and it will eat anything but the most rugged up.

Hey, theres a place in Port Isabel that you can rent a flat bottom boat for bay fishing: http://www.the-white-sands.com/wsmmr/boat-rentals/

Unless you're dead-set on taking your own boat all the way down (and I understand the desire to explore distant waters in one's own rig), I would suggest you save alot of towing fuel $$ and just rent one of these. Might be worthwhile to ask for a discount if you'll be renting one for several days.
