no surprise there, had hpd cops pull me over in the semi and try to fabricate krap. both times I pointed out they were not dot certified and I could and would call the fed marshalls office if they persisted. hate houston with a passion.

Here in San Antonio, they love to sit on the side of Loop 410 and write speeding tickets.

On a trip to Galveston, we ran across a cop pulled over on the left shoulder of the highway with a radar gun pointed at on coming traffic......it was bumper to bumper traffic and no one was going over 10 mph.....good use of tax payer $$$$$

We were all afraid of "The Constable" when I was a little kid, although non of us had ever actually seen one.

they serve civil papers, do civil standby's, serve as baliff's for their JP, some run traffic and issue citations, some back us up on calls since we are usually alone... most work 8-5 then go to an off duty job for the rest of the night and prolly pull in 85-90k a year... Theyre are similar to firefighters with all the time off for extra jobs... OH SNAP!

In most counties, the constables office is used exclusively as an officer of the court. They are bailiffs in a JP court, serve summons, serve warrants, and serve as an enforcement officer for any court ordered eviction.

However, in Harris County every Constables office has a patrol division. They are responsible for the patrol of county parks, county tollway system and they also do traffic enforcement on any roadway in the county within their precinct. They patrol 24/7/365.

What the JP does with all the money they rake in is beyond my imagination. If you get a traffic citation in Harris county you are more likely to get it from a constable than you are a county sheriffs deputy or a houston police officer.

That is a link to my precincts constables office. As you see, they do everything from crime scene photography to having mounted patrols, to traffic enforcement to high water rescue to the clean air task force.

They are everything a Sheriffs office or City Police force is plus the JP's biatch.

A constable is the only LEO that can arrest a governor

Years ago, one used to sit and watch the street races off of Meacham. Never did anything, just watched. The one in town here is a one man police force, if anything is going down anywhere you can bet he is first in line. Just never really knew what his official duties were.

That is a popular belief since most arrests of a Governor would come from a court proceeding in which the constable would be carrying out the court order, but that is a myth that they are the only ones allowed to arrest a Governor.

The cops around here are pretty honest. I wouldn't live in a big city. Ew.

Keith knows his stuff about the Harris County Precincts Constables.

The last citation I received (knock on wood) was in 1998 on the West Sam Houston Tollway. I was doing 89 in a 55, so I deserved it. The guy that got me was named Lugo. Went to court to request Deferred Disposition. There were about 300 of us heathens in there. About 260 were dismissed because the officer failed to appear. Not Lugo. He was there for his 20 of the 40 remaining.

Come to find out from a buddy with the HCSO that his subdivision (Copperfield btw, Keith) had off-duty Constables that patrolled their area 24/7 on contract. Lugo was one of them, at one time. But he was writing so may stupid moving violations to soccer Moms they had to let him go Dude was writing 15-20 citations per 8hr. shift! Every shift.

The constables are pretty much shut down in Dallas County. They spent all of their time writing speeding tickets and amassed enough money to start their own SWAT and K-9. People got fed up with them and like Houston, there was a lot of corruption, which got them severely curtailed. They did the same thing is Florida and got shut down. They don't do anything the sheriff's office can't do and are pretty much useless in a metropolitan area.

I would think that maybe 99% of all LEO's are honest. I know a bunch of them in various branches of LE, and they are all great folks. I've met a few I thought needed an attitude adjustment, but those guys are the minority, in my experience.

Most of the cops in the Terrell PD and the Kaufman County Sheriffs Office are grossly overweight. Don't see how they pass the physical requirements, if there are any.
Our local constable has had the job for about 40 years. Before that his dad held the job, for about 50 years.

I thaught the constable was an elected offical... seemed that way in Amarillo, we diddn't have them in Oklahoma.....

Here in Memphis, they dont even try to cover up, the arrested a City officer, while he was on duty,in uniform, buying 2 kilo's of smack and he was sitting in his patrol car as he was doing this.
