So yes we all know its that time of year again. Yes, Night fishing time! I know last year I made a post about it, but I just wanted to give a reminder to all of you that plan on doing it again this year.

1. Fish as you want people to fish around you.... this means Lights work best when IN the water facing down! Everyone around you does not want to be blinded by your lights when they are fishing near or traveling the river. These lights that people have around the gunwale look cool, but are blinding and inconsiderate to the people around you. Be considerate with your lights!

2. Green lights work best! Green lights in the water facing down will attract more fish than a lantern facing the water blinding all around you.

3. Use different color light for area lighting other than white. There are many reasons for doing this. Use amber, red, lights as I do on a pole facing down. This combination does not attract bugs at night. Orange, Purple, UV, Pink, and Blue all work also.

4. Be sure of the path you plan to take. No one needs or wants to get stuck on a stump(s). Follow boats that know the way. If you see a boat and you have the option to go on either side ask where the channel is. I can't count how many time last year we have people almost capsize when they tried to go on the wrong side of us fishing the river hitting stumps. Most people do not sit right in the channel. The lakes being low this year should help this.

5. Slow down! Kind of speaks for itself. This way the people your going by do not get swamped and keep from banging them against logs, stumps, and anything else they my be next to. If you do hit something unseen it will be less likely to cause dammage when traveling slow.

6. Have a pair of jumper cables, jumper, or a spare battery. Its not fun getting stuck on the water at night with a storm blowing in.

7. Wear your lifejacket when moving! All it takes is a slight shift from hitting a stump at night to throw you out of the boat. Life jacket does you no good when its not warn.

8. Have fun out there and let the little things go. Fishing is suspose to be relaxing. A postive attitude, not sweating the little thing, and not getting upset about the things you cannot control will make every trip better and more productive. Seems like the more fun we had (even when it was 28 deg) the better trip we had and more fish we caught.

Have fun and we'll see you out there!

thumb Yep, those green lights under the gunwale sure look pretty and light things up, but they blind the heck out of others around them.

Looking to try the night fishing thing, mainly for Crappie. What essential gear should I have for night fishing from the bank?
