How low was it? I've seen a plane I thought was about to crash and jumped on the big motor to run and see if anyone needed to be helped but it was one of those water planes and was just landing on shotgun crossing

I wasn't there so can't say for sure.

I've seen several Cessna 182's flying the lake at altitudes of 100-500 feet over the years. Typically you're looking at planes checking pipelines for leaks. The p/l planes will typically be flying from the dam to the WNW, or transversing the various p/l's that run N/S, such as the sour gas line that runs from W of White Oak, xcross The Sawmill and SE of Penson. There is another further NW on the west side by the Oilwell. My company used to own both of them.

Was the aircraft in distress or simply flying a l/a straight line?

Sounds like a P/L plane to me. Or General Aviation out for a sight seeing flight.

RH, was the plane in "distress" ? Was it a white aircraft with the wing on top of the fuselage, or one where the wing came out of the fuselage below the doors?

No biggie to me, either. Just wanted to make sure.

I've never seen a P/L Surveyor flying Fork in anything other than a Cessna, wing-over. Doesn't mean they don't fly Beeches, etc. low-wing.

As long as you didn't hear a boom, or loud splash followed by a bunch of sirens, it's safe to assume the plane you saw continued on safely to its destination thumb

I was in White Oak when the plane came from uplake (Birch) It was flying very low about 100 feet from waterlevel or maybe even closer. It started a steep climb turning toward the South and then made a steep turning dive toward the water toward the Northeast (the wingtips were verticle to the lake - I thought he was going to crash). It decended toward the water very low and disappeared from my view. Sounds crazy but that is what I observed. Sure was a good pilot and glad I wasn't in that plane.

We were at Travis about 15 years ago skiing and had a bi plane come roaring past us actually dragging it's landing gear in the water

Scared the hell out of me till one of the guys with is said it was his Dad
He apparently does aerobatics and raced in those plane races in the desert

NO! this was not the pipeline plane as I have seen many, many times. This was a single-engine plane with the wing under, very fast. I couldn't tell what color as I was looking back into the south sun.

I saw a plane that looked similar to the predator flying over my house last week. Not sure if that was the same one mentioned here.

Its a sand bass eradicater. Actually deploys floats and trolls four dozen Alabama rigs. Should have seen faces of the Silver Leaf crappie club when it buzzed them with 200+ sandies flappin in the breeze.

I've seen it a bunch lately (not the sand bass plane) doesn't appear to be flying pipelines.

Interesting.......last time I checked the Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR's) prohibits General Aviation aircraft from getting lower than 500' above ground level (AGL) over non-congested areas unless required for flight training purposes, then you can go down to 100' AGL, or special exceptions have been granted.

A few weeks ago I saw a guy flying a yellow Piper Cub low over the north end of the lake. I thought it was pretty cool.
