Ok I give up! The vine has handed it to me the last few times I have hit the water. I started fishing the vine in April when I got my boat and have had some great days and also some lesser days but every since water temps have dropped to what seems winter temps I have done TERRIBLE. This is my first winter truely fishing so I am having a problem establishing the patters the fish are on. To add to it I have a terrible work schedule and only get to fish for a 6 day stretch every month.

Who all has been having luck out at Grapevine? What seems to be the key to the winter bite? Any advice is great!

Thanks
Jeff

Used to catch em good on 3/16 ounce shakeyhead with sprayed grass or Junebug Flirts on the dam, rocky points...fished slow, basically drag it and bites were soft. Also suspending jerkbaits, ripped hard on points and can't ever go wrong with a football jig on Grapevine. Hope you catch some. grin

What depth do the fish seem to be concentrated at this time of the year on the vine?

8 to 12 foot deep, unless there is a warm spell, then they will move up a little shallower. jigs are a great way to start, but the slower the better one day they hit plastic trailers, the next they want the pork. Im not very good with drop shots and shakey heads, but they work for my freinds. Crank baits work well in the rocks, but finding the right color can be a pain. good luck

Fish shallow and slow with whatever you have confidence in. You will get bit. Fishing will be slow this time of year but trust me, if you fish your confidence baits like this you will get bit. Grapevine bass seem to be more about presentation than color to me. Small jigs, baby brushhogs, squarebills, and a shakeyhead are what I prefer this time of year out there.

Thanks guys! I will try not to give up on the vine. The best thing I have going for me is I live so close I can hear boats running across the lake on quite days so its hard to travel with lake levels how they are around Texas

Have had a decent bit of luck lately out there but I could probably get a few more bites if I slowed down more. I have still been fishing the reaction bite and having luck. Focus on the points and ledges on the north side and you should be able to find fish. I have caught fish recently as shallow as 2ft and as deep as 10. Shoot me a pm if you have any quest or are looking for more info
