Power Pole question

I'm thinking about buying a Power Pole or two and am looking for some feed back from anyone who owns one or two. I have a 21ft Ranger and am think the 10ft Power Pole or Poles would work for me.
I was wandering if they really work as good as advertised. I fish Amistad and Falcon a lot and with the coming of the shallow water bite I'm wanting to pull the trigger this week. Any feed back or advice would be vary helpful. Thanks guys.

Everyone I talk to says they wouldn't be without them after they have them on their rig.

I have one on a 22ft triton, great in shallows, works well, would not be without it for shallow/bed fishing

Is it best to buy two or is one enough? I see lots of guys with two. but see many of the pros with only one.

I read an article with KVD that said 2 were a neccesity. However I read another article from a pro that said he liked just the one so he could pivot his boat.

one is great but you will pivot in the wind some. if you anchor with your bow pointing into the wind the boat will swing around and face downwind. I have one and have learned to position my boat so that this isn't that big of an issue. With two you can hold with your bow into the wind and stay completely still so that's definitely an advantage. Before you buy you need to price them with Kathy at Brannan's Bass Shop www.brannansbass.com. Call her for pricing, I promise you she will beat any other price you get. Installation is pretty simple so no reason to pay someone to do it if you are even a little mechanically inclined.

Get two, on most boats the bracket mounts between the jack plate and the boat, so your going to spend some $$ to get it mounted because the motor has to be unbolted from the boat, think it costs me about $275 for my current boat, so you don't want to do it and then realize you really want two. Every single guy i know personally that has one has confided to me that it was a mistake to get one. I run the 8 footers which I'm amazed how much I use, how many times a day do you sit down to retie, or cull, or take a phone call, or..well you know the thing over the side, and you stay right where you were and come back to same spot, More than that you can pick shallow water apart so well and a so quietly, I can't tell me how much I love having them. The only draw backs i have experienced is that you do have to tighten the bolts on your motor couple times a year because the additional vibration will loosen them, not sure the 10's will vibrate more than the 8's? Second if the water EVER gets high again they are a pain in the behind when you are fishing in the woods....oh one other HUGE benefit, no more coanglers whacking the paint off your cowling with spinner baits! Giant cowling protectors, also fun to see your partners picking out backlashes until they get use to them being up...

Hey pinetree do you remember what or where you read that article ?
I saw that KVD only had one power pole on his boat but in any case I would like to read that article.

I have an 8ft. model and would never want to be without it. But, there are many times that I wished I had two. The boat will spin around quite a bit in the wind. Something else you need to think of is roof clearance if you park in the garage. My 8ft. model will not allow me to park in a regular garage. My second garage has a high ceiling and the power pole barely clears the door. Unless you have a very tall door, your boat will not fit in the garage with the power pole attached. You might check with Tommy at Rockwall Marine. Great guys to deal with. Honest and good prices! http://www.rockwallmarine.com/

Ken I thought they bolted right to the jack plate ?
If not I guess taking off the motor is not a problem.

If not I guess taking off the motor is not a problem. If you have a manual slidemaster jack plate then they make a bracket that bolts to the side of it without having to remove the motor. Other jackplates you will need to mount the bracket either between the motor and transom or between the jack plate and motor (how I mounted mine) If you have a hoist of any kind taking the motor off is no problem. All you really need to do is support the motor enough to take the weight off the bolts. I replaced my bolts with some a little longer to compensate for the thickness of the power pole bracket. You really never have to completely unbolt the motor. What I did was take off the nuts on one side and loosen the other side enough to where the bracket would slide between the jack plate and the motor. Really easy and safe that way.

Side Master is what my Ranger came with and it's a manual one. I saw that it has hole on the sides my thinking was that it is for the installation of a Power pole or Talon.

If you can afford 2 and not be sacrificing another piece of critical equipment for it you won't regret the second on.

It might have been an online Bassmasters article. It was just an overview about how he decked his boat out last year. It went into detail about all the extras and why he put them on his boat. Alarm, electronics, stereo etc. All the things we wish we could put on our boats.

I can do it from the seat of my truck with my remote. Very easy.
