I believe the trailer lights go through a relay in PDC if truck has tow package. If truck is 06 or newer the relays are replaced with TIPM, (totally integrated power module)if htis trips it has to be reset at dealer. Check the terminals in the 7 way outlet and see if they are getting power when brake/turn signal is on? b

on the pre TIPM models Dodge had some issues with the turn signal switch itself causing this same problem. Without a year and model to look the schematic information up its really hard to say.

Can anyone do this that knows how to.

On that truck I would suspect the turn signal switch. I replaced alot of them in the 06 models for the same issue. I would go that route before messing with the tipm. The tipm can cause some wild electrical problems but its not the first place to look.
I'm betting on the turn signal switch. I bet if you mess with the switch it will go from messing up to working right every once in awhile.

I've had similar problems with a 4-pole connection, when not properly grounded. If you haven't already, check the olm reading between your rear bumper and trailor tongue. If its not zero, there's your problem.

Its the lever assembly that you push up or down to turn on the turn signal. Otherwise known as the multifunction switch since it does turn signals, hazards, dimmer, washer and wipers.

Not to butt in but yes, it can be repaired/replaced by any capable auto machanic. The actual switch is in the steering column (inner end of the turn signal stalk). If you are handy with tools you can probably do it yourself. If you should decicde to DIY, disconnect the battery and wait a few minutes to disable the air bag in the steering col. Good luck. bg

You'll need to disconnect the battery, remove air bag from steering wheel, remove steering wheel (requires a steering wheel puller to get off). Remove the upper and lower trim off the steering column. should be just a few torx head screws holding the switch on, if I remember right, its been nearly 2 years since I quit the last Dodge dealership I worked at and started working on class 4-8 trucks.

I had the exact same issue in my 04 Red. It was the actual fuse block. If all relays and fuses are good I would look there. This was a $800 repair at Dodge house on my truck to replace. I traced my power from my plug with a test light all the way to underneath the hood. It is a common issue with goats.

10-4 just let you know. Been there done that. If it bothers you enough and you keep the truck its worth it not cut the wires.
