Went last Sunday, caught 1 fish all day. Water temp was 57-59. Maybe its slow because it's December, maybe because the water is low. It's been pretty bad since September though.. I don't want to have to give up on this lake, but I will take the boat to Fayette County if need be!!

Not the low water, I had my best years there when the lake was 20ft low. Fishing was easy, you could almost pick the spots where a fish was at before you got there. What lures are you using and what areas are you fishing? Don't be afraid to say and I'm not trying to steal your areas, esp. since you can't catch fish. grin

fishing 3 and 4 fingers. 0-15 ft of water, points and where ever looks good. Throwing everything from texas rigged creature baits to mag flukes, crankbaits, spinnerbaits, jigs. I think its just slow. Haven't seen any posts recently with people just nailing fish

Yea tried it, not all day, but i threw it a couple times. Nothing. I caught my one fish a a tx rig mag fluke off a point in three fingers. I'm pretty sure that area is overfished to begin with.

The alligators are multiplying, and IMO they eat bass.
IOW I have a hard time finding fish too.

Yes, but not recent, it was just prior to the start of the drop in water level. That spot is about a mile upstream of the bridge. I had worked hard trying to find fish over in the Possum Creek area, then just upstream of the boat ramp at Callahan. I loaded up and put in at the bridge ramp, and found a few 2 to 3 pounders.

There are no fish at the mouth, or any other part, of opossum. I would steer clear.

rolfmao Some pretty good spawning areas in the possum. Lot's of sandy gravel bottoms. Think you might try a little harder. Or like Cracker said just stay clear. bannana2

One last thing, a old pro named Elroy Kreuger once told me a secret... If you want to catch the biggest fish on Choke you have to fish the clearest water on Choke! Anybody guess where that's at?

And never waste your time fishing there if the water temp is 50 degrees or colder.

I would say the fishing dropped off in November for me. Prior to that I was pulling in 20+ fish in the evening. Last weekend we fished deeper with smaller worms than usual. 5 fish only. Fish are still being caught though. I saw a bay boat at the south shore ramp cleaning a good pile of bass. One thing I noticed were the fish don't seem to be fat at all. I was at Amistad and everything looked fat. I'm sure it will pick up soon enough.

I posted the photo with the flowers in hope that someone could tell us the name of the plant in my photo.
I don't know one water "grass" from the other. All I know is that I fish it when I find it.
But, I can tell you that I've never seen flowers on any of the water plants at Choke Canyon.

Buddy and I fished Choke this weekend. We found that chartreuse was key, no real bait pattern though.

I've fished Choke 4 times since Christmas. First couple of trips down there I had close to 32lbs as I found hundreds of 6lbers and an occasional 7ler mixed in all stacked up on some brushpiles. Went down again and same thing. Alright now I've got them figured out, let me take my buddies so they can have some fun too...fail!.

The last 2 times just before New Years the fishing was extremely tough. Ran the same patterns as before with no luck. In attempt to just put something in the boat I moved real shallow (1-2ft) and found some fish on hydrilla pacthes with mixed wood on big flats. Nothing big but we did get 2 that pushed 5lbs and a couple of smaller fish. Couldn't put a limit together the last 2 trips. Been towing boat down to Falcon ever since.

Time on the water is the best advice for Choke. Slowly dragging a watermelon senko w/ 3/16 or 1/4 weight can help on a slow day when nothing else will.

only way I have ever caught fish at choke is to run and gun. pick up 1 here and two there. some spots nothing. never been able to set in one place and catch fish one after another. I carry 11 rods and no two of them have the same bait on. if the fishing is slow, I will use them all at one time or another. some days I will find one bait that outfishes the rest and stick with that one all day.
