white bass, yellow bass, crappie freshwater drum, black bass; all chasing shad in the creek channel. Spent the weekend on caddo; lots of fish caught on beadhead streamers and clousers using teeny sink tip lines, light rods. Fish are holding on dead lilly pads in 6-10 feet of water on edge of channel. Beautiful weather-p-

nice size yellow bass

For the flyman wanting some non-stop action, its the lake to be on right now. We(caddokid and pearo) probably caught 300 fish each during our three day trip; most were small yellow bass but there was just enough crappie, blacks, and big whites to keep the interest up, and the yellows, though small in size are a good opponent with a light 3 or 4 weight rod.
Johnson's ranch in Uncertain is the only feasible launch for large to mid size boats right now and the action centers within 4oo yards on either side of the launch site.
If we didn't catch a fish on the third cast, we moved 50 yards or so and started catching them again. You gotta have a sink tip line or full sinking to get the fly down to the fish. We lost a few flies that would get hung in the dead lillies laying on the bottom.Yellow is the choice color, followed by white, pink, and chartreause, or a combination of the above colors. We killed them on yellow with white underneath and a little flash in the middle-p-

The Henry and Pearow Outdoor Fishing Show needs to be coming soon to a cable channel near you or me. Seriously.

Gene,
Not sure about how to distinguish the yellow bass- what do you look for?

look carefully at pics 3 and 4; 3 is a yellow bass, 4 is a white; the yellow has a yellow tint; it has broken lines on the side and spots on the lower portion of the side. You can distinguish it from a white easy; but a hybrid is a little more difficult; then you have to rely on the yellow tint. I think there is a difference in the # of dorsal spines and tooth patch inside their mouth but I never have to use those; just rely on the color.
The yellow bass tastes more like a crappie than a white; they have no dark meat like the whites; many prefer the yellow bass to the crappie as far as taste is concerned. yum-yum!!!-p-

Gene,
Just for grins I went looking around for photos of these "little" guys and found this magnum sized version of the Yellow Bass; in fact it's the world record

Look how muddy the water is, and yet there is the undeniable success . . . on the fly!

Thanks for the very generous report.
