I use a 14 ft with a 7.5 horse short shaft and a troller on it. I trailer it, and when launching shallow, I remove the motor first to get the boat in and then clamp it back once afloat. It's a little more effort, but saves me some prop damage.

Hey wrknonit, Thanks for the reply. I guess I need to start looking for a jon boat with a motor if I want to do any white bass fishing this year.

I have not been to the river, but I would start at Sweeney Switch and work north. Sweeney is probably 20 miles south of George West just off 37. It is on the old high way just a 1/4 mile towards the river from 37. I don't know if there is still a place to launch a small boat there or not. Most of the ramps are far out of water. No sense in me even trying my bass boat. Sure some good fishing in there. Look up KOA camp ground on google maps also. There are ramps there but they may be dry as well. Sure worth a phone call or two. I have friends with river lots near Antalope Road and there is a ramp there that might be worth a try. Look at google maps about 4 miles south of GW on 37. Caliche road is listed as antelope rd and has street sign at entrance at 37.

Wish I had better info and a smaller boat. Good luck on the whites!

Most of those areas have no access to the public and are on private land and small areas that only property owners are allowed to access.

Just sayin!...I would be careful trying to get to the water and leave your vehicle off the roadways in that area without permission.

You could end up with a ticket or worse, and have your car towed.

The white bass run gets a little crazy, and the locals don't take kindly to the invaders from the north.

And that is why I chose the rig that I did. Specifically for the Nueces river. Works well most places but fits there about perfect. Good luck Chief.
