I am looking to get more molds. My question, for the serious tiers, do you prefer a collarless mold or a mold for a ball collar, or what is your prefered mold? I want to know the pluses and minuses about them. I have always used a collarless, but use alot of material to build the bodies up.

When tying I mostly use collarless. The exception to that is when I use a thread body instead of chenille, but collarless works well for that also just takes more thread. I do use collard jigs but mostly for plastics... Hope that helps.

I have always used collarless as well, just saw the ball collar mold and thought it may save on some thread. My fear is that I will hate the ball collar so I might just have to bite the bullet on the thread and go collarless.

What Mel said above.... collars are good for thread necks, but i mainly use collarless for tying, and collarless for plastics, as the barbs always seem to tear the plastic up quickly....

+1, I hardly pour my collared molds anymore with the exception of 1/16 collared for dock shooting.
