We're going to fish in the Sam Rayburn tomorrow in the river. We'll be in a boat, but just wondering what's best to fish with and how? Jig and bobber or reeling a jig with a spinner? Do they usually want it moving or sitting still? I've never fished this way before. Im used to brush piles or drifting deep water. There will be some stumps where we're going and very skinny water.

1/16 road runner orange head With black and chartruce curly tail. Fish the tops and stumps. Cast and let it sink to the bottom and retrieve as slowly as possible. Be careful not to get your arm broke!!!

5 to10 ft bobby garland jig on 1/16 head with float just big enough to stay afloat with jig. Hit the stumps and lay downs with a jig no float. Good luck reposy with results!

Bobby garlands. Verticle jig heavy brush...if there's current, fish with cork in the calm water....no current cork is still good especially for slower presentation....we are having better luck this time of year with slow presentation( vertical jig or bobber) save your spinner till spring. Just my $.02

Give us a report when you get back. I fished big Sam and the Angeline river every weekend when I was lliving in East Texas. This was my favorite time of year to crappie fish. I have heard that the river is near dry right now in my favorite spots.

The river was very low. It was actually ONLY the river channel. No "lake" to speak of. I caught one crappie and it was a SLAB! Unfortunately it was the only one. There were tons of boats down there. No one was catching anything. Maximum depth I saw was 12 ft. It looked great though! Gnarly stumps lining the entire channel in about 3ft of water. Just no fish! From everyone we talked to down there, it was an off day. Everyone said last weekend they were loading there boats with slabs and cats. Just my luck!
