Has anyone every tried sinking old artificial Christmas tree that people no longer want? The advantage I see is less mess in your boat taking it to the location and it would last forever..no rotting.
The only problem I see is getting caught sinking natural vegitation is probably a slap on the hand compared to littering the lake with plastic...but would probably work....

All those hits and no one else had anything to mention about old artificial Christmas trees....Well I hope it's not unethical someday I'll let ya'll know how it goes.
I'm not sure I like the idea. Most have twisted metal "limbs". Is there any lead in those? I don't know how to find out. Plus it just seems wrong putting that much plastic in a lake. I don't like the idea, if you're askin'.
I would think that they would rust out very quickly and then all of that plastic would just be left to float around. I would think that it is a very bad idea. Recycle them!

Thought about it once. The more I thought about how much wire I would have to add to hold them limbs together, plus the metal rusting quickly the more I realized it was easier to cut a cedar or willow tree to sink.
Shouldn't be an issue from an environmental standpoint. I just think it will be more trouble than it is worth and won't last long.

Yeah cause there is not lead in the jig heads or split shots...
They do attract fish, but mostly dinks. Guess the cover is too tight. I fish over one that is at least 3 years old, and it appears to show no signs of decay, at least on the graph, still standing upright, and just as bushy as the day I sank it

So what about crappie condoes where people are throwing pvc pipe, 5 gallon bucks (also plastic), filled with cement.
