Just received my new Ultra Light rod from Charner today and man it is awesome. The rod only weighs 2.2 oz and paired up with a wally marshall reel it is so light you hardly even notice it. (not to impressed with the wally reels). he was kind enough to add some green and gold accents for the greatest football team in history and through on a spiral wrap which looks cool and finished it off with some micro guides. He was a little worried about the crappie setup but I think he nailed it. If anyone is looking for an excellent custom crappie rod that you can get for cheaper than alot of the other rods we buy cost give Charner or Matta call at Trinity. The only bad part is I found out I have to go to Ft Polk for a couple weeks so I wont even be able to try it out anytime soon. The pics dont do the rod justice, but I havent mastered the picture taking skills for rods yet.

I believe that's done on purpose....I've seen several built like that, but not sure why...what's the point of this?

thats the spiral wrap. it give more control over the fish when they are going from side to side. the rod wont bend one way or the other, just down. Also it adds more backbone, which is helpful with an ultralight rod

ya in the second picture (it is hard to see) the first three eyes start out on the top of the rod and slowly wrap around to the bottom. after the third eye is 7 micro guides up to the tip. I will try and get a better pic tomorrow

I just got back tomask, we didnt do well, several boats were heading out at dusk to set up for a night fish, we were over them in 19 to 25 feet, but they werent feeding, saw 1 small fish caught at eichelberger around 2.pm. next time I go, im going at night, lighting it up like a used car lot in a bad neigborhood, bringing me a case of bud light lime, and fishing till morning.

Here is a better pic of the guides. This is as if the rod is on its side with the reel facing down.

They are great rod builders! I had them build me one on a 7 ft ML St Croix SC IV blank, with split grips and a minima reel seat. Their craftsmanship on that rod is outstanding!

Leave that funny looking rod with me while you are at Polk. I will take good care of it and let you know if it works as advertised.
