Ordered from Crazy Angler. I like the idea of stopping by Barlows and not waiting but I've waited 45 years to tie some jigs so a few more days is no big deal.

Everyone on here is real helpful.... So don't be afraid to ask for some advise. There are some real good tyers on here.

Mark, you're in the right place for info and to get pointers. I tie a few myself; started back in the 70s. The guys that post on here are top shelf; as good as there is IMHO. These folks definitely take pride in their works of art. And their jigs do catch fish.

I will for sure be looking for help. I guess the main thing I need right now is direction as far as colors are concerned.

Got a friend that I fish with that says if it ain't chartruse it ain't no use...
There-fore start with jigs with some combination of chartruse,
pink/black/chart
chart/chart/chart
chart/black/chart
you get the idea?

Mathew is right...any color is good as long as its chart....

The Lectric chicken combo has taken the #1 one spot in my box the last few years..

chart/pink/chart or reverse
pink/chart/pink is a great jig in most parts of Tx,

some of the blue/chart and red/chart combo's are good too !

Wow thats funny. When we started fishing the back marshes out of Venice La way back when the first thing we were told was it doesn't matter what color your using as long as it is chartruse. I have always used pink and chart store boughts and plan on doing the same with these hand tied jobs. By the way, both of my kids want to take a turn. This may turn out pretty cool. Thanks everyone!

Combinations of blk/chart; white/chart; orange/chart; white/gray; red/chart; pink/chart; blue/chart; blue/white. Besides all the chart combinations, anything that resembles a shad or minnow color. If they ain't hittin one of the above, get some minnows or go home and come back another day.

I have pounded those marshes quite a bit around Venice.....sure miss it sometimes. You never knew what the next cast was going to bring you....Bass, redfish, flounder....or a big ole Sac-a-lait.

Try some maribou feathers also. They have great action and work well when the water temp is cold.

Or warm...

Kip tails really work well early spring especially when the water is still around 50. Will work later too, but I have finally learned that early it may even be better than feathers. I am a big feather guy too, but my thinking is when the water is still a bit cool maybe the fish are a bit slow and like something with a bit less action. Just my take though!

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I received my order a few minutes ago and will get on it tonight. Pretty fast delivery too considering I ordered late thursday and went with standard shipping. One thing though, I already have a list of other stuff I want. Strange.
