I just looked into getting a covered boat slip at Lake Lavon at Collin Park. A covered slip is $165/mo but if you pay the whole thing up front you can get one month free ($1815/yr). Here is my proposition: If 5 or 6 of us want to go in together, the whole year would only be $363 ea for 5 people or $302.50 for 6 people. She said that this would not be a problem, they do it all the time. Noone would "leave" their boat (if they have one)in the slip, but if someone wanted to go out for the weekend or a couple of days during the week then they could use the slip to park. As a courtesy, they would need to let the others know by email or post that they would be using it in advance. We would be able to bait the hole with attractors and it would be accesible to everyone 24 hrs a day. We could crappie fish all year round under a covered slip. Anyone interested. If I get 5 or 6 to commit and pay, I will get the slip for us. PM me if you are interested. banana
By the way, here is link to the site http://www.collinpark.com/marina.nxg

I have one on board (he does not have a boat-dock fisher).... three more for a go. This would be great for the spring crappie if we could get this soon and get the fish attractors out soon. Let me know guys or gals and we can go out to look at the slip when we are ready.

I am a "member" on 2 of these, Texoma and now lewisville. It works great for us. Weather friendly and a great way to spend time. My advice? Do it!

Poppie, get it set up and I may have a guy for you. Not certain but fairly sure. He lives in Whitewright and that's in his range.

Get on Craigslist and take over somrone's existing lease. People sell their boat or move all the time and they are on the hook for several more months of lease payments. In the off boating season (now) you can take over a lease at a big discount.

CrappiePoppie, Get it now, The winter will probably be the best time of the year. In the spring they leave and go to shore to spawn.

I have three slips, two at Lewisville and one at Texoma. Mark is on with me. Good fishing in all of them. I go somewhere almost every day.

Be sure the slip you get is on the shady side and not on the end of the house. You want the deepest shade possible along with good water depth. Bait it with fresh Cedar trees, not Xmas trees or willows. If you need anymore info you can call me.

Good luck.

Great advice Ernest. I think that I will do just that. I have one person ready to go and Mark said that he may have another. For anyone else, we need two or three others. The crappie fishing is great on Lavon and having a covered slip with elect is the only way to go when the wind picks up or its raining and you still want to fish. You would be able to park your boat in it anytime you wanted unless someone else is using it at the time. That is why noone could leave their boat there permanently. Still looking for the other few partners... Hurry up so we can get it ready for the soon coming fishing.

Here's a question....what's the difference between Christmas trees and cedar? I sank some Christmas trees, but they're not pine....I guess it's a spruce of some sort...

The only difference that I know of is that the cedar is rot resistant and will be there for several years while the pine will start to rot fairly quick. I have personally become a huge fan of the pvc crappie hotels myself because it is harder to get hung up in them and the mose and algie grow on them pretty good. Someone else may have some better knowledge but that is my 2 cents. azn

Ok I looked up this place on Google to check it out on the map. I came across some bad reviews. I got questions about entry in the park and if somebody that pays on the slip gets charged entry? I bring this up because if this would have happen to me or one of my family and friends I'd be pissed too. Check it out

yall know they moved this marina out to deeper water, and if the water comes back up I bet them move it back into the cove. hang your trees from the slip and dont put them on the bottom. all those brushpiles people threw on the bottom are probably all beat up now, possibly even on dry ground.

Ok, Slabington.... I just got off the phone with the marina because you scared the pajeebee's out of me. The lady said that if 5 or 6 of us went in on slip then every one of us would get a car pass that would allow entry 24 hrs a day, 365 days a year. She said they have lots of people do this. I told her about the other post and she said that if they didn't have a car pass then they would have to pay at the gate because the lady there wouldn't know if you were just trying to get in free or not. With the pass, you just drive in. I hope that helped. smile

I asked her about that and she said exactly that. When, the lake comes back up they would be moving the marina back around into the protected waters. She also said that could be 6 months or 3 yrs depending on how long it takes for the lake to fill up again. I requested as Ernest suggested that the slip we got would be on the shaded side and she said that if that changed when they moved the marina back, that we could move to another spot where it was shaded and resink our crappie condos.

I practically live at this lake in the summertime and would be interested in this. My friend has a slip at the other side of Collin Park, great crappie fishing when the lake is up. I have one question, and I guess I could call the marina and ask. If I were to show up with my boat in tow with a few friends in the truck, would this car pass get us in for the day? I would assume so, but would like to be sure.

OK... Great question so I called to find out. Any partner that has a boat... that boat needs to be listed on the contract. If all five or six partners have a boat, then all their boats are listed. That way folks don't just pass there car pass around to all their fishin buddies to show up and use the slip. But if it is you and you have 4 buddies in your truck then yes you call all come in as long as they are in your truck with the car pass. I hope that answered your question without sounding like I am crazy.

Ok, let me check with the Boss. My boat is the skiing variety. I would want to crappie fish, but would be using the pass for lake access more than boat parking. That is assuming that the lake has water in it at some point of course.

One of the great side benefits is that you could make some new good fishing buddies. If I were to show up with my boat and saw one of my partners at the slip, I would invite you to join me if you wanted to. Looking forward to a great year of fishing.

Anyone reading this that wants to consider same deal on Lynn Creek Marina or Joe Pool Marina either let me know by pm of look for my separate post. If anyone knows of any roadblocks in regards to either location please let me know. The only drawback to Joe Pool is the payment to get into the state park but I have a yearly pass.

CrappiePoppie, don't mean to hijack your thread here, great idea.

Sure would suggest you guys develop some written rules--will eliminate misunderstandings, hard feelings, etc. Not for me, but for YOU guys--can you fish any slip in the marina?
