Sauce Ingredients: 2 28oz. cans of crushed tomatoes 1/2 lb. thick sliced bacon (chopped into 1/2 inch pieces) 1 large onion (chopped) 1 clove garlic (coarsely chopped) 1 can black olives (whole or halved) 8-10 mushroom buttons
Directions: Fry bacon pieces on medium heat until almost crisp. Do not remove grease. Add chopped onion and cook until clear. Add garlic and cook about a minute. Reduce heat to low and add crushed tomatoes, olives and mushrooms. Cover and simmer for 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
Meatball Ingredients: 2 lbs. Italian sausage or ground beef 3/4 cup chopped fresh parsley 1/2 cup bread crumbs 2 cloves garlic (chopped) 2 eggs 3/4 cup freshly grated parmesan cheese
Directions: Combine ingredients and preheat oven to 425 degrees. Form mixture into about 1 1/2 inch balls. Place them on a greased cookie sheet and cook for 5-10 minutes until done. (turning occasionally)
Serve over your favorite pasta. Leftovers make great meatball sandwiches with provelone cheese.
