Witnessed something new this past Monday.

Was White Bass fishing a 16-18' deep river spot when the wind picked up & the Whites stopped biting like they had been all morning.

Before then, I had pinged that spot 3 times seeing lots Game fish all up in the shad feeding & scattering them all morning & early afternoon. But when the wind n pressure got up the bite slowed down so much that it got me wondering. What happened to them!? Did they move out? So I released anchor & sonared the area again. Saw almost no Whites but did see the shad now bunched up. Where did they go I thought? hmmm I asked a passing old timer who was also fishing the area where he thought they had gone. He said he thinks they are still there just not feeding. So I passed over again very slow & notice that the bottom was no longer smooth on the edge of the stacks of shad. I'm thinking now they were still there just laying on the bottom or so close my $80 sonar couldn't distinguish the difference.

Boxed 8 more keepers after this break. Total was 2 shy of a limit after culling.

QUESTIONS:
Has Anyone ever witnessed this or something similar?
Could I get them to bite if I dangle it in their face during a time like this or do i call it day & leave them for another day?

I've seen that many times before! My buddy and call it "Blocky Bottom. The signature on my graph will show smaller clusters of blocks when the fish are holding close to the bottom. I can't tell you the number of times I've caught fish when seeing that. It looks like no fish are there but they are. Depending on the time of year I use different techniques to get them to bite. Judging by the looks of your catch you had a good day! Happy Fishing.

This time of year they do go deep and hang right on the bottom. Most times when they are hugging the bottom you will not see them unless you can set your sonar on zoom of at least 4X

When the bottom goes from smooth to looking somewhat jaggeg or looking like saw teeth those are whites and or stripers on the bottom. Perfect jigging opprotunity. That is one of the key views I search for.

Sounds to me like when the wind came up your smooth bottom turned to saw tooth because your graph was picking up the wave action. I have been wrong before!

That makes sense too Pat. I've seen them
Also hugging the bottom. I've stared at my baby 3" color hummingbird
for almost 4 years now, and I can tell the difference. It's all about learning you're
Electronics!

Good luck

A good looking guide told me they look like "goose bumps". And this was in April last year.

Yep when those fish move, most of the time they just move a little and can shut down (this time of year).

They look like Pimples on the bottom on 2d. On Down Scan you can still see a little separation from the bottom to ID positive - YEP its fish.

You know that third fish on the left side (in the picture) is a Hybrid. With the darker lines and broken right down the middle of the fish.

Let those go, (God knows they are hard to ID),

PM sent Mark.

now that we have established im not schizophrenic frkazoid

assuming they are right there on the bottom of the river, they've stopped chasing bait, w/ a headache from the high pressure. In your opinion, can i get them to bite? if so, how?

i would chunk n wind just like before but after that change in the weather, could only catch a dink about every 20 cast!
