I need to find an air powered driver that will drive a 3 inch steel post. (Rent or hire someone to do it.) Last section of our new dock is a floating section...the reason for the driver. The post will be about 12 ft out of the water when I first start driving it. This is in East Texas.

I have never seen one, and did not know one was made (but lots things I do not know). I had pier built on Pines and they built it with hand drive VERY tall thing that went over the pipe and when the pipe was started they were 20+ long. It was built of a 4 in diameter pipe with 20 Lbs weight on top, then they built 15 ft long handles weilded on side so they could pick it up and set on top of pipe. They drove about 18 pipes 5ft down in lake bottom and they stick up 12-15 ft . they did GREAT job. If you need know how the driver thing was built I can send a picture,

3" is a big pipe to drive! I have one that drives 2 3/8. Works like a champ. You can rent them at a lot of commercial equipment rental places. They are vibratory and extremelly loud!!!!!!! Mine is an impact and hits the post 60-70 hits per minute. It takes about 2 minutes to drive a post 4 feet int eh ground! Greatest things ever made!

90-100 psi, 3 cfm

Man Saver Post Driver

Looks like one that will drive 3" would require 90-100 psi and 3.5 cfm.

Unlike vibratory that require huge air supplies, these don't take that much. I bought the 2 3/8 version with a t-post adapter. It sure beats digging , hauling concrete, mixing concrete, leveling and waiting smile Expensive, but my fence would have cost me as much or more in concrete. Not to mention my back moving the concrete! I also have no doubt I could get most of my money back if I want to sell it.

You can get a big jackhammer an manufactor a cup that will fit over the pipe and it will drive the pipe. Seen some dock buiders using this setup.
