I am wanting to know if there is an adjustment that can be made to the cable or shifter arm. Reverse works ok, but cannot put it in forward. Sounds like its just grinding. Started all of a sudden. Any knowledge on this is appreciated, thanks. 00' merc efi 150 hrs or so. Bought it used. No telling how long it sat up.

Yes on the front port side their is a barrel nut that holds the shift and throttle cable in place. Turn the shift cable barrel nut a couple of rounds at a time and check. Should screw toward rear of motor. Look real good around the shift linkage under the cowl first. Have seen nuts or bolts fall in their and restrict the movement of the shift arm.
Keep in mind that if you give it too much forward you could lose reverse. It is a balancing act and the tolerances get tighter as the clutch dog and gears wear. It is unusual to have forward start to go first normally it is reverse. Maybe reverse was very lightly used or it always had a little less on the forward side.
