Well sometimes your the windshield, sometimes the bug and Yesterday we were the bugs. Booked a trip with Mike Acosta and met at the East Loafer Ramp at 7am. Headed out toward the birds and started marking fish but boy they had the bad case of lock jaw. Guess fish celebrate New Years as well cause all these fish were hungover or something they did not want to play. Stayed there for a hour or so and made a run up the lake. Those fish were hungover as well. Made several stops throughout the lake but the fish were shut down. We did manage 4 small stripers and 2 whites. Very tough day but well worth the trip. Mike gave me some insight on Deadsticking and gave me some good groundwork to learn on. First time to fish that way and caught a couple of fish doing. Can't wait to try it this weekend on Buchanan. Even though the trip was a bust as far as catching fish it was a success in learning a new technique and seeing more of the lake. Mike and his sone busted their butts trying to put me on fish and bottom line that is all you can ask out of a guide trip. And that Ranger Bay is one sweet boat. Smooth dry ride. If you plan on fishing Whitney give Mike a call. I know that I am going to be booking another trip soon I hope.

How did the hunting part of the trip go?

Bout the same as the fishing part. Dang duck hunters on the river had the deer spooky. Saw a nice 130 class 8 point but let him walk.

Ha! Ya, duck hunters messed up my fishing yesterday as well. Well, it was more like me messing up their hunting I hated the fact that I messed up their hunting but dang it if I don't to be sitting almost on top of them before I know they're there.

I was out there on Whitney in my kayak and did worse than you.

The entire month of December was unbelievably great on Whitney. Unfortunately, the fish were full on this blue bird day. It happens. Will be back on those fish shortly!!
