Went out this afternoon on my first venture
this year with my kayak. About 8 vehicles were
parked around the Neches Hwy 31 bridge. Didn't
see any thing caught. Put in at the west end
of the park area just east of the steep hill
with the concrete rip rap. There were several
trees across the river upstream. Don't think
flat bottoms can get far away from the bridge.
Went about 200 yds downstream and worked my way
back up. Used a chartreuse curly tail grub and
also a light blue/white/clear grub. No hits.
Water was flowing well & pretty clear.

late february is when i've starting catching at neches. havn't fished kickapoo much to know when they start there. so there is water in the creek? last year was really low.

Keep checking and let us know when it starts.

Drove across both bridges this afternoon.
Kickapoo was up and "Running" pretty muddy -
2 trucks parked at the rancher's gate. Neches -
about 15 vehicles. Looked like it was almost
at normal level. Clearer water than Kickapoo.
