My buddy showed me a new spot today. I threw back maybe 15plus smaller ones. The biggest was 1.21lb. Great day today.

Thanks. I would have written more, but I was posting from my phone. We fishied with jigs and minnows. I think that minnows put one of the small ones on the stringer but thats it. My buddy showed me a new spot that I will be frequenting a few times this year for sure...I think that if we had a boat and fish finder... we would have killed yesterday. Tha only thing is that its a walk and not much of a trail, just gotta know where your going... Ill just say OLD ALTON, thats all. We were fishing around 8ft. deep with green; green/black; avacado; pink/black. The gig ones are starting to come up river!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Hey DRF, how's the water level down there? I got a new canoe for Christmas and always intended to launch it down at old Alton but wasn't very optimistic with the lack of rain. And nice stringer you got there too.

Well, I didnt walk the river, so not too certain about all of it. I know in one spot was only about 5 or less. I think if you put in at the bridge you might be ok... If not there, the first bend past the rock cliff, might be a good spot to drop in if you dont mind the walk.

It's a climb but you can put in there. I drove by this weekend and took a look. You could put in at the bridge and go down river but not up.

Can I ask what time of day you were fishing? I'm trying to learn enough about crappie fishing to put my son on some. He's aching to catch and eat some!

Early morning to aftetnoon. Did some exploring too. Id say two more weeks and you will start to see some slabs come up river.

Do you have anyway of knowing the water temps?

The ponds I fish are all between 44 and 50 degress as of yesterday.

Im leaving work and heading out to the bridge right now. More exploring than fishing but it's way to nice outside to stay inside another minute. Not saying Im not caring a pole and my gear.

ok, here's what it looks like. Met new fishing friend Peter and we fished with no luck until he had to get the kids from school. Did see a dude in a float tub with neon green flippers moving up steam about 3pm. Zero fish, no sign of shad, it was afternoon so not suprised. enjoy......

great pictures , nice looking spot . I went by duck creek just to cast a few and not even a nibble could this be an issue with the barometric pressure ? I ususally will get something I fished for an hour tried top water and my go to bait zoom brush hog , no luck .

Thanks for the report and photos at least some water is in it now.
I think one would have to hike down a long ways to get to good fish at this time.
