Checked and rechecked the wind report - said 5-10 from the NNW and 15-20 by afternoon. Got to the state park and it was not 5-10 - more like 10-15 so I put in and headed for the timber. First drop caught a hybrid about 22-23 inches (about 7:30 a.m.). Then my electric motor flat quit on me (about 10 a.m.) without another hit. I tried a drift and hooked up with a better fish but came unbuttoned at the boat (about 10:30). Tried several more motor up wind and drift to no avail. Wind was pushing me 1.63 mph across the water - more like trolling than drifting. Finally called it a day and headed back to the ramp.

Then the wind kicked it up several notches. The ride back to the state park was not pleasant. I was soaked head to toe when I got to the dock. Definitely some 3-4 foot rollers out there and had to quarter them to get back to the state park.

I think I invented a few new curse words....

Well, I checked the wind last night and this morning again about 6am. Looked like the highest it would get was 11mph about noon, so I met customers at 8:30 am at Holiday. When I gassed up about 7 it was just barely a breeze, by the time I drove the 8 miles out to the lake it was stupid windy hammer

We watched whitecaps for a while and called it off. Never put the boat in today. Went instead to BPS and spent $200 hammer hammer

But, now I have 2 big wind socks grin

Hale, Matt, it wouldn't have been bad at all puttin' in at Holiday.....holding the boat in one place and keepin' the troll motor prop in the water woulda been a real biotch, though.....LOL

Of course, fiberglas is a lot heavier than tin so you wouldn't have been bobbin' too bad!

Probably a fuse, Mike. I wasn't about to dig around and find out with my gloved hands so cold they were almost numb. Shouldn't have put in at the state park but I love the ramp docks too much not to when fishing by myself.

Yes you're right, the ramps at the state park are awesome!

I've put in there probably 4 of my last 5 trips. Clean, nice cleaning station and just a great facility. Hopefully see ya out there soon.

glad your still with us redfin thumb i know the feeling. Our boat went under last November in the middle of looserville. please be prepared out there guys. things can get out of hand quickly especially on a big lake like RC, Fork, LL, Tawak n Big Tex. i learned its better to hit the nearest bank and wait it it out then to push on.
