Bunch of excellent vises out there. Some inexpensive and some very expensive. I looked at a lot of em a year ago and finally settled on the Peak rotary. Its about $149 and is built like a tank and will handle a wide range of hook sizes from tying small flies to large salt water jigs. Excellent vise and best overall deal for the money IMHO.

I hear great things about the Peak from everyone that has one NTC..

I bought a Danvise several years ago when I thought the rotary would be the thing...After about a week, I tightened the rotary down, never to be used again...Lots of guy's like it and do well with it,but it wasnt for me..

The Danvise has been a good fairly inexpensive vice for me.

I am a Peak dealer and I like them and have never had a complaint from a customer yet!
I started with a Danvise and uses it for
A year, then I got a Renzetti Salt Water Traveler with cam jaw which are about $220. Then I bought a Nor Vise which I still use a
Lot, but at about $300 are a bit high. When I decided
To take on a vise to sell I really likes the Peak because it
Was the very beat under $150 so took them on and once I got some in I really love how they are built and the machine work
Is great! So I can feel good every time I sell one that the customer
Will be happy!

Sorry I have some trouble typing on this iPhone!

If you live close to a fly shop swing by and try several. Then decide which one you like the best. I've used my Peak Rotary enough to know it fits me well, and I do like being able to see the back side of my jig easily...They are also great to deal with for warranty stuff. IMO

Good advice I don't often think of since there is not a fly shop within a few hundred miles As far as I know. I wish there had been when I started!
