Hi there. I live in west Fort Worth. I'm new to the fishing scene here in TX. Are there any places to do some winter Crappie bank fishing? Perhaps in or within an hour from Fort Worth? I don't mind going really early if that's what it takes. Thanks for any help.

As Tarponfly says, Creeks are Baro sensitive. Anything above 30.30 you might as well stay home. Current Baro is 30.64 - Clean the garage.

I have an App on my iphone that has the barometer. I also have one on my Basscat that was built into the dash. Pretty cool feature that I use as much as my water temp gauge.

Below website gives DFW present and past 24 hours barometric pressure. Also gives temps and winds. If you are within 100 miles of DFW and there are no fronts coming through, your location baro will be close to DFW.

Fish seemed to hit fine for me and my stepdad today. We caught about 30 with 11 keepers in the creeks. Dark colored jigs worked well.

I fished Sunday evening and tried to stay overnight but the bite just stopped. Had a good stringer and 2 that went 14 inches.

We caught over 100 crappie yesterday afternoon, with only one in 10 a keeper...tube jigs 18" under a cork. Went back to the same stretch of little creek today and only managed 8 or 9 with two keepers. Yes, cold fronts and high pressure do make a difference. My son found a 4 pound channel catfish swimming slowly along the surface where he was wading. He reached down and picked it up and there was nothing left of the fish behind the dorsal fin...just torn clean off. Thinking maybe a big gar got a hold of the fish, but this is a TINY creek with mostly 3-4 feet of water in the deeper spots and it's not very near any larger body of water. Anyone ever seen anything like that before? Probably not gator country here in north Texas, either.

Compared to what...hard to say something is small if there is no known reference. They do look small compared to the drive way, or the yard, or the stringers length... Of unknown length.......lololololol
