I have a Motorguide Pro Series 70# Thrust 24V Bow Mounted Trolling motor and notice some issues with it. Sometimes the motor runs pretty smooth as I press the ordedal but other times throughout the day the TM seems to "surge" real fast for a little while and then it goes back to smooth again. When it does this "surge" it really goes FAST (like 2.8 MPH on setting 2 vs. Typically 1.4 MPH on setting 2).

I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to fix this? It seems to me it is probably a wire issue or maybe loose or too tight of a wire... Not sure?

Lastly, unrelated.... The transducer wire I have hooked up to the TM seems to be fraying a bit and was always a bit too tight from day one when I bought the used boat. Well today the temperature gauge on the front fish finder stopped working.

Thanks in advance for all your help.

On the Temp, the wire carring the temp from the tranducer probably either wore or broke from the tighness you talked about. On the trolling motor, I think you probably have a wire that has rubbed or burned, touching each other and causing a short when you move the footpedal.

You probably need to replace the switch that controls the speed on your motor. It is located and connected to the dial that controls your speed under the foot pedal. I am not sure the cost but it is an easy fix. If that does not solve the problem then most likely you need to replace the switch under the button you step on to make the trolling motor go. The switch tends to go out over time and from what you describe the switch is starting to go out. They are very easy to replace just make sure you hook up the wires to the correct slots. The switch is inexpensive, about $15 from what I remember.

As for the temp gauge you may want to check your connection to the unit and look for a bent pin or corrosion. If none, then you may need to replace the transducer which can be around $100 depending on your unit.
