When RDZ and I were at Tawakoni on Friday some wizard came up and anchored up about 200 yards award away and started beating on his boat like it was a war drum. I think it must of scared every fish away for two miles. What purpose could this possibly serve?

It's so the stiper guides can put on a show for the customer. At the end of the day they can say "see how hard I worked for you". We were there Fri and several guides were doing this. First I have ever seen and extremely annoying. I'm with you Brian it was bad. 30 minutes straight feels like Chinese water torture.

It's a way of attracting the scaleys to the boat. Sandjohnny does it on EM for Sandies and it works.

I have heard Thumper out there the last few times I have been out. I know it's annoying to us but can you imagine being on that boat! About ten minutes of that and the guide would get to go for a swim whether it was attracting fish or not. One thing about it I don't think it hurts the catfishing!!

It works...
I have done it several times on a trip, now that being said you dont have to beat the boat up at all, just a few taps with a rubber mallot and it brings the "scale" fish in, also i always take a extra rod on the boat and slap the water also.

So that's what that noise was. I'm still thinking you guys are just being funny saying it's a fish attractor, but what do I know. This was my first trip to Tawakoni and that noise was driving me crazy. I thought someone was doing some type of construction on the lake banging away at something. If it was an attractor, I guess all the fish went to it and away from me because I got skunked. It's a beautiful lake though so I still enjoyed my time on it. Hopefully next time it will be quieter. Happy New Year to all!

Been doing it for 45 years and no way to prove it works. Some people will say they would have came around anyway. Back in the 60's a guy by the name of Glade Reed carried a rubber mallet to use. I don't think it works on anything but sandbass. I love the comments by guys who don't even fish for sandbass and they know it don't work. Be careful I have been fishing a long time and I am not good enough and don't have enough experience to say I know something don't work.Maybe after another 65 years I will be able to say that. LOL Johnny

Johnny, do you beat on the boat constantly or just every now and then?

Every now and then. If I have reason to beleive sandbass are in the area. If I have been catching fish and they quit I will do a rythmatic beating . Many instances they will come back instantly. But you can always say they would have came back on their own.I am like most fisherman if I had a reason to beleive that standing on my head and fa*ting B B's would help me catch fish I would probally try it. I went with a Striper guide on Texoma a few years back, there were a lot of boats in the area, then one took off and the rest followed, he said when they leave I will call the fish back, when they were gone, he took a rod and went to whipping the water with it and stuck it in the water and made a splashing sound with it, and it wasn't a minute till we would have 2 or 3 fish on, every time it got slow he did that and called them in.
It Worked, never heard of the beating till now!!!

I have seen the rod in the water work for stripers. Beating on the side of the boat don't seem to work on stripers. Johnny

Chill. It will be alright.I don't beat so loud as you could hear me if you were 40 yards away. You still have to get in the area where there is fish or I assure you it won't work. So the real key is to find the fish with the depth finder. I also have a lot of people who think it also don't work. So we all do the best we can to catch fish. I will never say another person's method won't work. Johnny

These guys were probably not guides because they weren't catching anything. they where using a pvc pipe or something and where pounding for over an hour straight. I put a mile or more on the gps and could still here them pounding.

All that beating is fine if it works I just do not understand why those 2 boats had to hit it so hard 2 or 3 hundreds yards away it sounded like it was in the boat with you is just very irritating I would move then here that boat would come just very selfish imho
