What is the best rod / reel combo for crappie?
Best line?
Best length?
Best weight / action?
All for a working man's price.

I like low profile Bait Casters for my reels. You can get a good one for around $35.

Olsens ProAm Fishing Shop in Ft. Worth has TICA 8 ft Rods Med Fast action. Very light, sensitive. $40

To to Pro Angler website. Ed has specialty crappie rods and can talk to you about what you are doing and the proper equipment to get the job done.

Depending on application, I prefer a 10' rod...very sensitive..with a lo pro spin cast....

I have fallen in love with my BPS Crappie Maxx 5 foot rod with microlite reel. 6 lb sufix neon tangerine. Been vertical jigging with it and can't put it down. All for under 50 bucks.

IMHO, ProAngler 8' with a med-small spinning reel loaded with 6-8# Hi-Vis line (my preference is Sufix Seige Neon Tangerine)

Looks like Suffix Seige tangerine is a favorite of many. Matthew introduced me to it a couple of weeks ago. Tried it out last week and agree it is the best out there right now. Very low memory is what I like the most....not sure other colors would be as good or better. Thanks Jigem

For the money, it's very hard to beat a Pro Angler Rod. I like 8ft the best, but sometimes you nee 2 more feet. i like small low profile Bait Casters, but sometimes a spinning reel works best. It depends on how the fish want the jig presented. I use the Tangerine Suffix as well, but I use about 4 feet of smoke green suffix for a leader. Sometimes the little critters are line shy, and they don't see that smoke green suffix.

For the money this is your best bet. Matthew and I fished Palestine on Friday and since we were going to hit the bridge I strung up one of my Pro Anglers so I didn't risk breaking a Dobyns on a piling....caught all my fish on it and remembered how nice they are for the $$. They won't replace my Dobyns most of the time but they have earned a place in the boat again. With a decent reel you should have a nice combo for ~ $100.

At walmart then have a micrographic rod with ultra light action for 16$ and you can find a nice real that has a 4 ball bearing that is light also for line i would stick to 6-10lb line that or you can go to academy and get a plastic b&m real for 5$.

5ft6 B@M sharpshooter fitted with a 5$ b@m west point reel and 6lb suffix line is my favorite. also picked up a 5ft and 5ft6 quantum ultra light rods at acadamey on sale for 12.99 each last month. very sensitive and durable rods as well. I keep it cheap and simple, once you get addicted to the thump and bump i think we all could feel a strike using a broom stick as a rod.

Depends on the application. For timber/brushpile/bridges I like an 8' pro angler rod with a low profile bait casting reel.

For fishing on docks or shooting docks I use a BPS Crappie Maxx 5'-6" Lite action with a small Shimano spinning reel.

Virtually any graphite rod you can buy is more sensitive than the angler holding it.

Stay away from ultra lite rods, your not looking for ultra lite fish. (If you want ultra lite call me, I have a bundle of them for sale cheap.)
