We took seven kids from our facility camping at Bob Sandlin State Park this week while school is out. The kids fished for trout at the park's pond for one of the days, but the bigger thrill for them was Thursday when Camp County Game Warden Heath Taylor took them crappie fishing.
This time of year, Heath said he has done more bass fishing than anything else but he gave it a shot for the kids and things turned out better than we imagined. We ended up with 56 crappie, a couple of sand bass and a blue cat, but more importantly was that every kid caught something while Heath kept them laughing.
Heath had Christmas, an aniversary and his birthday all this week, yet he still made time to take the kids fishing for a day, that's a top-notch guy in my book.
I also want to say a word of thanks to Big Earl's Bait and Tackle for donating a pound of minnows, two 12-packs of sodas and a sack full of snacks for the kids to enjoy for the day. Pegasus Schools really appreciates the support in helping show these kids the right way to turn their lives around.
