I've had tough days on Bastrop but nothing like this. Got home at (thursday) midnight, so I didn't get on the road (Friday) until 7:30am. Got on the water about 10:00am and hit some of my favorite spots. Nothing. Tried some other places. Nothing. Water was dirty and there was floating grass EVERYWHERE. I guess the wind has been switching direction during the week, keeping the water screwed up and the line fouling stuff at every compass point of the lake. I NEVER EVEN GOT A BUMP. I have gone home with only one fish but never a big zero!

By the way; the north parking lot had a lot of trailers in it. I guess a lot of people had Friday off.

Oh well; tomorrow's a new day and we'll be going to Monticello for the 1st time. Wish us luck!

Hopefully they will be hungry by tomorrow because I'm headed there in the morning.

I was at Bastrop on Thursday and Friday last week and only got 2-3 fish each day. A lot of boaters were fishing about 30 yards off the shorelines in about 10-20ft water. Me, I got all my fish on the bottom of secondary creek beds in 8-15ft of water using watermelon plastics, mostly T-rigged but some C-rigged. A report of AustinBassFishing.com had some guy talking about boating 70 fish around Christmas time, but I say no way. I'm probably going to go out again this weekend as I'll be at the in-laws ranch in Bastrop for the weekend. Hopefully I get something to write home about.

The guy on abf said the 70 fish was between 5 people in two boats. I know and have fished with him/against him. He has no reason to lie. They simply found the pattern the fish wanted. Just because others can't figure it out doesn't mean someone else is a liar. On a good day bastrop can easily turn out 100 fish for a group of fisherman.

My apologies, I certainly don't want to call anyone a liar. I guess some people fish better than others. No big deal.

Actually, that is not what he said...and I quote:

"Met my step dad, unlce, cousin, and a friend at the South launch this morning. We were in two boats and started off at the discharge early with not much luck, picked up one dink. We then made a move and started getting into them pretty good for the next couple hours on cranks and worms. Made a move after a couple hours and used c-rig, worms, and cranks... we picked up more. For the day, my cousin and his friend caught probably around 70+ bass, with lots of 2,3,4lbers and a few 5's. My step dad and I boated around 20 in the 2-3lb range with a couple 4lbers. My uncle got skunked, felt bad for him. He was throwing the same baits and doing the same as we were, couldn't believe he didn't get one??"

The 70+ was for only two fishermen...not all five.

I only managed one 2lb'er off Aretha's Pt. in about 13ft. of water on a watermelon plastic this last Sunday. Fished from 7am to 11am. A little slow, to say the least, but better than being indoors.

I'm not saying that anyone is not telling the truth but it never fails. If someone gives a horrible fishing report there is always going to be someone reporting that they slaughtered the fish. I used to be skeptical but as they say "90% of the fish are in 10% of the lake". Someone always finds those one or two spots holding the fish and rakes them in.

Thanks for making me feel better about getting skunked on that lake. I have fished it twice. Both times the wind was cranking 20-25mph.
