Good Day Gents,

Me and my buddy are stationed at Dyess and we are wanting to get out on the lakes here but since the drought hit we have been limited from the bank. If there are any guys in the area that have a boat and want to get out on the water we are willing to pay for gas for the boat and lunch if we can get a seat out on the water. If any one would be interested please PM me or shoot me an email @ marrekus1983@gmail.com. Thanks

Mr Fish, thanks for your service to our country. I have my boat put up for the winter, but if you want to get in some fishing you might try the crappie house at Alan Henry. It is about 45 feet deep, but we caught crappie & bass all day there Wednesday. It does provide a fix for someone needing to catch a few.

I'm retired air force and live in clyde, in a few months the crappe will be smokin on lake fort phantom, won't need a boat, phantom has survived pretty well considering the drought, and still in good shape, also don't gve up on Lake kirby, they been pumping water to it, at times the water looks better than phantom,I haven't had my boat in the water in years, but still catchin fish, start lookin on google maps and such for local lakes and and roads leading into the lakes I've found many great spots like that out of the wind and easy to get to for shore fishing, a little ressearch goes a long way and somethin to do in the winter, also a float tube and neoprene waders will put you on some good fish in the winter here, my legs just can't take it any more or else i'd be out there right now, have fun and start searchin

Alan Henry is about 100 miles northwest of Abilene on US 84. It has a floating crappie house at the dock. It is not enclosed, so it can get cold if the wind is blowing. We caught crappie, largemouth and spotted bass the other day. The crappie were mostly deep. (I throw them as high as I can out the side & let them hit the water. This will knock some air of of their bladder so they can submerge again.) A lot of the bass were 15-20 feet deep.

Thanks for the info. I will definitely be checking it out. Were you using jigs or minnows

We were mostly tight lining with minnows, but a buddy of mine was getting a few on a orange/chartreuse Bobby Garland soft body jig. You can pick up minnows outside the gate at Fishin' D's. There is no marina on the lake, so you need to bring food, drinks, etc with you.

Lake Sweetwater and Oak Creek are close to you as well. Ivie is closer than Alan Henry. Don't rule out Stamford. I think they built a new crappie house there last year.

Stamford lake has a crappie house on the Haskell side at the Anchor park. A new uncovered house is coming to the Stamford side but has not be put in the water yet. Minnows are available at the lake.
