how do you get a 1/8oz crappie jig down to 25'+?

All of my crappie fishing experience has been shallow, but I'm taking my wife to Fork Saturday while the weather is still nice and I'd like to look like I have clue at this. And have a chance at catching some fish too grin

Drop shot it with a 3/8 oz weight. Tie the jig with a loop knot on the line about 8 inches above the weight. Best way to fish em deep or shallow. It's the only way I fish jigs and can usually outfish people that fish em conventionally. Most of the time I use two jigs. One about 3 ft up and the other about 8 inches. just hold the jig still with the weight almost contacting bottom. don't have to hop it around. some people think I'm crazy till I show em that it works. Lots of people fish this way at Pines in the deep water with even heavier sinkers. You can catch two fish while the guy in the back of the boat is waiting for his 1/8 oz jig to fall to the bottom. grin

Thanks Heath! That's actually what I was thinking of doing - dropshotting them thumb

I fish an 1/8oz jig when i go deeper than 15'. i have never had a problem with just the jig head and a small split shot. I don't like the heavy weight below my jig because when fish are biting soft or picking the jig up you will miss fish that you never knew where there (of course this is just my opinion, and i am not saying that the other method wont work....)Good luck i hope yall catch a mess.

I use a 3/16 oz head for deep jiggin and don't have to wait very long at all for the jig to get down to 25'+ depths. If it's windy I'll crimp a split shot right above the knot. To me, tandem rigs increase my hang-ups significantly more than with just one jig tied on.

Drop shotting works well. I tie a larger profile/heavier jig on the bottom of a dual jig setup. Same principle as drop shot, but my "shot" has a hook in it and allows you to still feel light bites....my .02

I use a 3/4 oz weight below two hooks w/ minnows. Works for me!! You wanna talk about sensitive! You're gonna feel every bite. Easier to watch a slightly bent rod tip too!

Thanks ya'll thumb Have rods rigged up and ready to go.

This is a bit different for me because most of my bass baits are on the opposite end of the spectrum from these little jigs grin

get you some minnows and rig with a minnow hook on bottom 8 inches or so from weight and then a jig a couple feet up. You will be glad you did. don't be stubborn like some of those hard core crappie fishermen and only fish with jigs. I went to Sandlin with some old timers wed and we had a whopping 6 fish because they only fish jigs. went yesterday with some kids and took minnows and had over 50.

There's no substitute for the real thing! I switch to jigs when my 3 dozen minnows run out!

I use a 1/4 OZ Jig on bottom and a 1/8 OZ 12-18" up, It works for me.

Might try the 3/8 drop shot rig. sounds interesting. Thanks Heath.
