Hi Guys,

We have a snake that regularly visits our yard which backs onto a small lake... the snake is called Sidney.

Any ideas what kind of snake he is ?

Looks like a water snake. Poisonous snakes have a flatter head.

Banded water snake. Good to keep around. They will scare the heck out of you but are harmless.

i hope sidney is hibernating by now... yep, harmless water snake... the more of them around the less room for the poisonous ones to move in!

thanks everyone for the information. Pictures were taken this evening, I've not seen him around for several weeks, however its likely the warmer weather today has woken him up.
