I'm shopping for a new rod and reel to fish for Crappie from the bank. I need a combo to fish jigs and minnows under bobbers. I've already got a long Uncle Bucks jig pole, I need a combo to cast. I have $150 to $175 to spend on both the rod and reel. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I've been using a 5'6" Crappie Max rod and the CX1000 Crappie Max spinning reel for several years now (Used the same Wally Marshall versions until BPS stopped carrying them).

The rods are around $45 and the reels are $20... so you could get several outfits...

Good luck!

Can't beat a 8ft pro angler and BPS just came out with a carbonlite spinning reel

You don't need to spin that kind of coin for a crappie set up. a 8ft Sam Heaton rod with a Shimano Sonora spinning reel is all you need to slay crappie.

I use a 7' St Croix Premier Spinning rod in a med lite action with a fast tip and a Shimano Saros 1000. I love it. I also have a 7' St Croix Triumph in a med lite action with a fast tip with a Pflueger President 6720. I like the Shimano reel better. Can't tell the difference in the 2 rods though and the Triumph is 30 bucks cheaper. Triumph is built in Mexico and the Premier is built in America. So is the Pflueger. So if I had it to do over I would buy the American made products whenever I can and will from now on. flag
